On a side note. anyone that bought the euro release had the message from Playonline about the first payment? It seems they are charging me $6 ish plus $12 ish. It equates to almost $20 and I have no idea why?

Surely the first month was free - as it states, it was a trial period. I'd like to know why I'm being charged so much for a first payment.

Anyone understand how it works? cheers.

Haven't checked it but I think the $6 will be for the last two weeks in october after the 30 day free trial ran out.

What date was the Eu version released? If it was released say on the 17th, You're trial period would expire on the 17th of the next month.Payments are taken from the first of the month and your payed month expires at the end, So they're charging you extra for the time you spent playing after your trial month expired, As the only bill your credit card on the 1st of the month.

I didn't explain that very well did i ><

Had an interesting party this morning. Went to Gustav Tunnel for the first time ever and we hit flys (Hawkers) near the tunnel entrance for a while. Only one tank in what was otherwise at that stage a very 'magey' party so SATA wasn't really on - went back to using Sneak Attack on its tod and then trick attack on own too but behind the tank (who was facing the mob). Trick on its own seems to miss alot  .

We then as a party teleported to Konschtat and charged to Crawlers Nest on Chocobos and then went for beetles in an obscure corner of the tunnels there. We were in competition though with another party and the beetle pulling felt a bit like camping Spook with a race to get the pop first.

One party member then dropped out and we started going for crawlers with a party of 5 but eventually a Ranger/Warrior turned up and I could again use SATA. Managed to get a top hit of 379 today but still short of the low 400's possible at my level.

All told though a good party and I guess I gained 4000 exp which is nice too. Its also good to be able to party in 3 very different locations - Crawlers Nest for Beetles and Crawlers, Garliage Citidel for Beetles and Bats and now Gustav for Hawkers and the odd but risky Bat.

this happened with me the other night. we were the only party there at first, chaining beetles for 250exp, and we were going through them so fast (Bards help so much, hurry up Sanjuro and Rayah (and Pungee)) it was wonderful. anyway another party came and instantly had 2 pullers which meant we were getting a beetle once every 5 mins. We asked nicely for them to just use one puller so we can share the mobs but they didn't say anything and kept doing it. So we moved our whole camp into the main beetle room and decided that everyone just grab one as soon as you see it. the other party unable to compete with 6 pullers (note, I'm not usually competetive like that but they weren't being at all reasonable) decided to get a level 56 BST to come and train 4 soldier crawlers, and I assume let them loose in the next room and they'd make their way back to us. I'm not sure how that'd work, but the party leader seemed to know what he was talking about anyway, so the black mage used Escape and the party ended soon after that. Gustav tunnel is good, but it was slow there for me last night as we had no white mage, and two red mages without refresh. and no bard. so I'd get poisoned a lot and would have to stand around waiting for it to wear off, and then get my MP back.

Later yesterday evening in Crawlers Nest:

Stolly (pulling) : 'So what's our tactic if I pull a crawler and another links'?

Other party member: 'RDM will sleep it np'

RDM: 'Yeah I'll sleep it np'

Stolly: 'Are you sure'?

RDM: 'YES'

Stolly then pulls a crawler and as seemed likely a nearby crawler links. Trail them back to party where the red one is voked. The RDM presumably then binds or tries to bind and sleep the 'yellow' crawler but something goes wrong. I'm not sure what to be honest because the party was sort of crammed into a tunnel with two crawlers (and a Lizard was there too generally getting in the way) but anyway the party gets a hammering. I managed to zone as a sole survivor :) but never-the-less what should the RDM have done and why might it have gone wrong?

The party as often happens disbanded at that point and I never got to the bottom of it. We also had a BLM so escape should have been an option too.

Had a great party with Bungle and 4 randoms in Yuhtunga Jungle last night. Gained 2 levels and had only minor problems with gob trains. Expected major hassle but we camped on the slope near the entrance and chained Mandragoras for some major exp. Managed to get 10-11k in the end.

Our party weren't the most talkative bunch but they were very efficient and it was all pretty effortless. One of the best parties I've been in since playing in fact. ;)

I never really enjoy playing with serious, knuckle-down parties. I like games like this for the banter as much as anything, and spending a few hours in a grind of levelling when there's little or no chat doesn't appeal to me at all. I had a great party with a bunch of strangers the other night. Everyone was having a laugh, and no-one got miserable when we had the odd screwup ;)

Oh I agree, the banter is a big part of the game and I wouldn't say the party we had were deadly serious but sometimes you just want to advance and I felt that I'd been standing still with my character for a week so and was really up for some intense partying.

I had an interesting party last night, headed out to Gustav tunnel and after a few fights came across Wyvernpoacher Drachlox!

http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/bestiary.html?fmob=1665

We waited for help before tackling him and just as a 75 rdm arrived some other bugger claimed him - couldn't have turned out well though as pretty soon after he was seen roaming around again. This time he was ours! Killed him but didnt get the Othinus Bow, which means I'll have to hunt him again sometime :D

Also came across this little puppy: http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/bestiary.html?fmob=568

Needless to say, we stayed WELL clear ;) check out the level!!!

Yep have to completely agree with that Jar. They were pleasantly efficient, which is what I actually wanted.

I too felt like I'd been stood still for quite a while, all the time seeing Layte, Drazho etc. zooming ahead levelwise. I know levelling isn't the be all and end all. But I guess after seeming to do nothing the past week, but wander around, I wanted to feel like I'd acheived something - and I wasn't disappointed.

I thought fighting in the Jungle would be a nightmare after the stories I had heard. But no one in our party even got a sniff at being close to death. I levelled up twice myself and it was very nice ;)

I think tonight I'll head back to the maze, and work on my BLM for a while. Now I know I can level up in the Jungle easilly, I want my sub job to keep up with me.

Yeah, I was planning on going to the Maze to level my BLM as well. Might see you there.

Yeah but its just not the same without the random abuse and comedy MT`s ;)

What level are you guys now then?

26 RDM/ 12 BLM.

Layte appears to have taken to some sort of mega levelling blitz over the last 2 weeks. Either that or he's glued himself to his PC and forsaken the need for sleep.

Whats that? :)

My god Layte just seen your stats

THF 30 : MNK 12 : NIN 18 : WAR 8 : RNG 6 : BST 1

We started at the same time and I have only reached BLM 20/ WHM 12. I have not got my Chocobbo license yet let alone been to Kazham or got advanced jobs like Ninja.

Have you quit work/life and are just playing this 24/7

Sir I am impressed with your level of dedication.

Oh and guys I'm going to head to Jeuno tonight to go for my license. What is the easiest way to get there and do I need protection from a higher level linkshell member to get there.

cheers

Matt

Getting protection from a higher level player makes it easy. Travelling solo is a fantastic stealth, duck, dive and weave gaming experience (but is a bummer if you die).

To get there depends where you are travelling from:

Windhurst>> East Sabu>>Tahrongi>> Meriphitaud>>Sauromauge>>Jeuno

Bastock>>South Gust>>North Gust>>Konschtat>>Passhaw>>Rolanberry>>Jeuno

San d'Oria>>West Ronfaure>>La Theine>>Jugner Forrest>> Batilia Downs >>Jeuno

Try it on your todd. You can always shout for help if you hit trouble or for directions if you get lost.

My favourite groups are the serious ones. Sometimes you get lucky and join a group where everyone knows their job exactly. Usually they've been playing a while, maybe with a high level character and this is a low one they are levelling and want to get on as fast and efficiently as possible. These are those super smooth groups with no downtime, constant pulls, often no danger of death, with a "good job guys" after ever kill, where you really learn how the game should be played. Usually you can have some good banter as well, as you're not worrying about death and destruction or getting lost all the time.

I am tending to like groups like this at the moment as well. Although the guys I was levelling my sub with yesterday in Valkurm, were obviously all spotty teenagers (they kept talking in "dood" speak to a jap member of our party, and wondering why he didn't reply!!!) they were super slick, and we were killing everything with ease. Plus at times they were highly amusing.

It served it's purpose nicely, which was to get my sub up to level 15 so that I could switch back to my main job.

Of course it went pear shaped later on :) I met up with Jaramesh and we went to Kazahm (Khazam?) with the intention of levelling our main jobs. We found it difficult getting a party together, so naturally there was plenty of standing around. Of course time is ticking away all the while. It soon gets to 12:30 and we have just about scraped a party together. Then one member says she is afk "really quickly" but seems to be gone ages. Then she turns up - decides she is the boss - and wants to Choco to some place we have never heard of. So, I bite the bullet, tell Jar it's too late to start faffing around - and we disband the party. Much to their annoyance.

I felt awful - but if our "boss" had told us what she wanted to do - we could have gone straight where she wanted to go - found members there, and she could have been AFK while we were doing that.

So, lesson learned. When forming a party, don't let some random turn up - vanish for a while - then start thinking they can tell you what to do.

While I've been playing I've been a few super slick parties and it is just incredible to see when it works well. One in Quifm and another in Yuhtunga still stand out but the best yet was in Eastern Altepa Desert.

The party had two Ninja/warriors blink tanking, a Thief/Warrior and a Thief/Ninja with SATA, a Bard and a White Mage. We basically chained beetles and made a shed load of exp with the minimum of fuss.

Even that party started off with a hic-cup though with the Bard's predessor leaving us mid-battle and one of the party, then a Range/Warrior dying, but then changing in Rabao to a Ninja/Warrior and coming back. It pays to stick with a party because even the poorest starts can turn around quickly.

I made it to Jeuno on my own to get my license but it took me 3 attempts and as in the quote above much ducking and diving - real edge of your seat stuff (I'm a lv20 blm).

I made it through via Konschtat>>Passhaw>>Rolanberry>>Jeuno - definitely found this to be the easiest route (although it might have been a case of just 3rd time lucky).

Well I thought it was probably time for an update in the main original thread (I'll have a look on the new star spangled forum at home tonight).

I finally managed to get my sub up to 15 finally.

It took a while but that time was spent farming, which resulted in the mother of all splurges at the AH.

So now i find my self a war/mnk at jeuno hoping to get to 24 asap. At that point I'll be back off to Bastok to get my 2-3 underway.

Then I'll be a travelling and a questing (and trying to maybe raise my whm to 15) before hitting a dragon with a very large axe!

But thats all some time off!

Until then I'll be spending the winter months in qufim trying desperately to level, which is what i was doing last night.

To tell you the truth, its a bit of a let down, isnt it, qufim. But i cant wait to take on the giants!

Sat through a small amount of "OMG!!!11 WTF!!!1one Ur armor is teh g1mp!! LoLz OMG!!1" abuse but now I'm fully kitted up and ready to fanboy with the best of them!

Now where are those pesky little crabs ...

I loved Quifim I may have just got lucky with the parties I got as I did manage to get through in a couple of sessions, I think the key to Quifim is location. My first party was in the small pass at the bottom of H-6 where we could constantly pull Pugs aggro free, as the undead never passed through, you may get the odd elemental but all you need to do is make sure no one casts and wait a few minutes. Then my second group was located at first outside the entrance to Delkfutt's Tower where we took on some of the weaker giants and some of the leech's around there, hard work but excellent EXP. Then we moved the party into the tower and took on ancient bats and a few giants to get lvl 25.

Oh cool!

We were around the tower doing clips.

The party was ok.

Despite being "gimpd!!!1" at for my armour and a nin "gimpd!!1" at for his inability to blink tank the guys we were with were ok.

They were the sort of "look dude im not gonna kick you but in the future do this ..." type.

Trying to be helpful and friendly i guess.

Still the experience was fun, but just a little bland so far!

Bring on the giants and i'll be happy!!

Managed to get my sub from 10 to 16 from Friday night to yesterday which I was very pleased about.

Friday's linkshell Dune-session seemed to go very well but my keyboard seemed to get worse as the evening wore on - not sure quite what happened but everything I typed seemed to come out with wrongly spelt letters and words - very odd.... <cough>....

Wasn't on much on Saturday but then yesterday Iza and I headed to the dunes again to create a party ourselves with us 2 WHMs as the starting point - got a ranger, DRK and thief which we thought would be a good start and then Deneb joined for a bit with his NIN. All very exciting with one near-death-too-many-damned-goblins-spawning-bloomin'-things moment but generally very successful. Unfortunately Deneb had to leave (/cry) and we got a WAR instead and it all carried on going so well it wasn't true.

Everyone did at least two levels, and most did 3 with just the one death (/em comforts Iza) when she tried too hard to help someone soloing in trouble and got all the hate onto herself.....

My problem now is that at 16, I am ready to switch back to BLM but I am finding WHM so much fun, I may keep going a bit longer and maybe even make it my main..... decisions, decisions....

I had a great time partying in Qufim last night - went from lv 20 to 22 pretty quickly. Set up camp just inside the tower entrance, pulling gobs for good xp (plus handy to zone if things turned nasty).

I'm quite keen on Qufim, I think it's cos I'm lazy and it's only a short stroll from Qufim into Jeuno. On my first visit to Qufim I foolishly hired a chocobo in Jeuno to travel there not realising that's a very pointless thing to do. Proudly rode out of town on my new chocobo only to enter rolanberry fields and realise I was heading in the wrong direction - 2 seconds later I'd lost my chocobo on re-entering the city - all part of the learning process I guess.
