The Other One

Ever-so-slightly higher res than what we're gonna get, but looking good regardless. :(

I like the box art.

Ha, ever so slightly. That's the greatest thing i've ever read.

So without the resolution three times as high as it's going to be it's so nice to see the, trying to distract us away from the big bad news about the series.

Unless they're trying to over power us with one lie that we forget the other.

Ah well the box looks nice and the £150 pound steering wheel.

Oh and the game comes in three parts you say.

One day they'll make a movie about this.

According to a SCE spokesperson, GT4 will be the first game to have the Nurburgring. Not because nobody else wants the track, but because one lap takes at least 12 minutes and it takes a lot of 'system power' to handle the Nurburgring.

well, that was dull  Very nice boxart, hooray.

But it's already in Project Gotham 2?

He doesn't know what he's talking about then.

They have always done this, ever since the very first GT.

And every single time people on forums get really excited about the shots.

Do people really spend that long in replay mode?

I don't think releasing screenshots and box art of a forthcoming game is a secret ploy "distract" us from anything. It's just screenshots and boxart, no Jedi mind-tricks involved.

I'm certain all of those pics (resolution aside) will be a wholely accurate representation of GT4. You do remember just how beautiful GT3 was, don't you?

I really can't wait. It's been far too long since the 3rd installment and I can't wait to see and feel all the changes they've made since the 18 month old prologue code.

People can bemoan the lack of online mode all they want. That's not my main motivation for playing a video game and I'd rather they spent longer on what's important (ie, the game structure, handling and physics) than bloody network code.

GT is for people who first and foremost love cars. It's porn to them.

So yes, I myself usually watch every lap I do in replay mode. Usually because I either want to see where I went wrong on a lap, or just to gawp at the cars. Replay mode is the best bit of GT games.

I have played GT4 in the BMW 1 Series Virtual Drive form, available from German BMW dealers.

It has the Nurburgring in it, and its lovely. Very very impressive, and a lot more faithful than the fantastic PGR2 version. That screen of the 'Ring is a rendered out image. There is no alaising issues or lack of mip-mapping on textures in the pic, but in-game armco has shimmering due to no mip-mapping levels on the textures (I guess it takes too much CPU/GPU time up to add them so they don't bother). The graffiti on the tarmac is amazing, and virtually every bit of is unique. You get huge VW logos painted on the track at times, and on the tight lefties before the back straight you get passages written on the floor, with the only word I can pick up being Achtung! Its so nice to play The 'Ring in 60fps too.. Lovely. Draw distance is sick, with zero pop-up, even on the two mile main straight.

The track (Nurburgring) loaded in 4 seconds. We timed it ourselves, and no, its not streamed. We loaded the track, ejected the disc and it played perfectly. Sod knows how they did it, but they did. You select your track first, then the car, so I guess its loading the track up in the background whilst you choose your car, and its a very efficient load in one or two blocks.

The handling has been tighted up nicely, and plays and feels different from Prologue. No understeering bollocks like in the demo. The sense of speed is greatly increased too, with a near- 200bhp RWD BMW feeling like a 200bhp car. Very nice.

The understeer did worry me greatly. The obvious one for me was the S2000, which in real life (on a private track honest guvn'nor!) will get the tail out in 4th in the dry and in Prologue started understeering at 60mph!
