I'm too hyper after possibly the single greatest gaming experience ever. Think a scaled down version of Helm's Deep, think backs to the wall, outnumbered at least 10 to one, think all fucking hell breaking loose, think FUCKING EPIC.

It made Ryo and thingy's 100 man battle look tame, Vem.

You're my hero :D

Last week's haul:

Punisher: The Cell - Hardcore would be an understatement. Good story but it's the art that makes it shine, moody, bleak, magnificent.

I’m not really getting into Garth Ennis’ Punisher stories. I’m a big fan of his stuff but The Punisher is just too bleak. The grimy brown and grey artwork in The Cell was beautiful, though and I loved Mother Russia.

What I’m looking forward to now is the Infinite Crisis stuff. I just finished the preview and I can’t wait for the 4 Mini-Series to start.

Blue Beetle.Noooooooooo.

After inadvertently posting a rather silly 'Hey, recommend me some comics!' thread without searching for this one and now having gone through all 19 pages I can safely say I'll be keeping an eye in here.

Some great recommendations and nice looking stuff that I've missed

I feel it is only polite to mention some stuff that used make me go gaga back when I was a heavy reader (and comic shop employee - yes, I was a goth)

Don't think these have been mentioned before.

BoneBoneville.jpg

Bone -

Beautifully whimsical and often hilarious fantasy type thing. Can now be picked up as a complete door-stop wedge of a TPB

concrete1.jpg

Concrete-

By turns, heartbreakingly moving and uplifting about a guy encased in, erm, concrete. Better than it sounds

AllredMadman1.gif

Madman -

Start with 'The Oddity Oddysey' and you will be hooked

hellshock_v2_1a.jpg

Hellshock -

Cause I'm not all about the whimsy

3933_180x270.jpg

Shade - The Changing Man

Only a six issue TPB but track down the back issues and you won't regret it.

So, just a few of the series that popped into my head that will forever be in my top 10 reads. So anybody care to comment? Be interested to know where these characters are at now. Especially Madman...

The article is fair enough - there are plenty of times comics are still plain embarrassing. Sin City less so - it sets out it's stand early enough. It's a comic based around comic books. The film does the same. It's over the top. Hugely.

It did have plenty of things to look at for inspiration though - especially at the time.

It's one of those things. Comic book geeks wank over drawings and video game geeks kill people. Not worth the effort arguing with it anymore.

Anyway.

House of M - sucked. It was an awful first issue. Alternate-Universetastic. It might get better but I'm sure as hell not paying to find out. Villains United hitting the shelves the same day made it look even worse. DC really are cruising at the moment in my mind at least - it seems they can't do anything wrong. They're really pulling off Superhero comics at the moment - and crossover stuff even more. It's colourful and entertaining and it makes you look forward to the next issue - that's superhero stuff at it's best.

I can't remember the last time I bought a bad DC issue though. At the moment I seem to be reading the majority of their titles with a few exceptions. Superman's titles and Batman's titles for a start.

Marvel on the other hand - even the Ultimate stuff is wearing a bit thin at the moment. Hopefully Spidey will get better when Bendis starts concentrating on it a bit again - the next arc could be good. F4 is a bit...myeh. And Ultimates has been a bit boring recently somehow. Hopefully they'll all improve though.

And as long as House of M is running I certainly won't be dipping my toe in the Marvel water.

Yeah l agree House of M looks rubbish, and Marvel's attempt at another DC style Crisis event.

However, yay for Villains United, l'm enjoying all the related titles like OMAC, DOV etc, however, the Ultimates!!!

That title rocks hard, plus Walking Dead wasn't too shabby either.

The Walking Dead TPB volume three is out now apparently.

EXCELLENT.

Going to have to pick that up. I stopped downloading them a while ago through guilt - as it's ace - but never added it to my list to pull.

Strangely though - from reading one issue of WD for some reason I thought the downloaded version looked nicer which has never happened before. High quality scans of black and white images just look nice I guess.

I've long since given up on converting people, but since I just got book five of Thieves and Kings I thought I'd just mention that it's still brilliant.

A shame there's most probably a two year wait for the next book.

Good old M'Oak. It's a fantastic story, and he's got a wonderful way of drawing huge city-scapes.

I wish, I really, really wish he'd use some proper font for his lettering though. He's fucking useless at it.

Still, not enough to detract too much.

Don't know whether anyone read it when it was originally out, but Pete Bagge's Hate is great. And there's now no excuse to pick up the B&W issues - they've all been collected in one handy, glossy volume - 'Buddy does Seattle'.

Marvellous stuff.

I'm not alone after all then! Very true about the lettering though. In particular when he tries to make those 'booming' voices. But as you said, it's a fantastic story and I can't wait to see what happens next.

Does anyone know of any UK based sites that sell graphics novels online? I know play.com stock a small variety and the forbidden planet website.

Also is there any trades out for Teen Titans, Thunderbolts, Astonishing X-men, New Avengers an Marvel Knights Spiderman yet?

The forbidden planet website is a bastard for trying to find any useful information on.

o/\o Hate rules. That Buddy Bradley's a great character - really unlikeable but sympathetic at the same time. Brilliant.

I've just picked up Ultimates 2 iss 6, Strange by Straczynski, Batman/Superman 20 also Ultimate FF and Spidey..

Strange is very good indeed, i love the retelling that he's done

Ultimates; just goes without saying, probably Marvels best title

after reading through most of this, I am now after Batman Arkum, also Batman: The Cult

RECOMMEND ME SOME GRAPHIC NOVELS!!!

But seriously, im gonna try and buy one graphic novel a month and wanted to know what graphic novels you guys would recommend.

Bought Daredevil: Guardian Devil this month, im thinking Watchmen, Dark Knight Returns, V for Vendetta and 100 Bullets for my next few purchases.

I like most comics and am pretty open minded so any recommendations are welcome.

Favorite comics at the mo are The Ultimates, Astonishing X-men, Fallen Angel (last ish out soon :D ), Ult Spider-man and Daredevil.

Fave writer is either Bendis or Peter David.

Did anyone here read Fallen Angel? Fucking outstanding, last issue is out soon, another Peter David comic premeturely ended (see the bloody amazing Captain Marvel).

A piece of advice for you all- go buy all of the 'Sleeper' trades. Its just finished, and has been one of the most consistently brilliant titles I have ever read. Its firmly established Ed Brubaker as one of my favourite writers. The worst thing is that I doubt I'm gonna find anything to fill its place...

Watchmen is brilliant, you should be buying that first.

I thought Superman Returns was pretty good and thoroughly enjoyed it but it has its haters. Recently I read the Judge Dredd/Batman Files, a crossover across three stories. I really liked it, specially the way Judge Dredd and Batman hate eachother.

Ooooh, Henry Bendicks in this weeks Authority, excellent stuff.

Desolation Jones looks top be pretty cool from Wareen Ellis, like the artwork too.

I've only recently got into Planetary (currently reading the 3rd volume TPB), while I thought it was a bit hit and miss at first, it's really hit its stride now.

Only realised yesterday Mark Millar and Romita Jr are on Wolverine, excellent cover and nice issue about The Hand. Think I'll have to pick up the rest of the atory arc.
