hungry joe
Saw this today, and it made me realise just what a pussy assed mofo of a movie Saw was. Fucking brilliant, even if it does leave a bad taste in your mouth. Anyone seen it?

JoeK
Saw this today, and it made me realise just what a pussy assed mofo of a movie Saw was. Fucking brilliant, even if it does leave a bad taste in your mouth.Anyone seen it? Haven't seen it yet, and to be honest if I hadn't switched onto Film '04 yesterday, I'd most likely never have hear anything about it. But by god, it's a stylish piece of work. It is available on R3 DVD at 'YesAsia' if anyone's interested, but as it's only DTS, I've had to pass. Which pisses me off no end. Still, if I can track down a cinema which is showing it, I'll have to go and see it.
V3zna
After reading about Old Boy in Empire mag it's definitely the sort of film I would like to seek out. I see there is a torrent for it, although it has very few seeds. I suppose a try before you buy approach is ok in this case.

McNeillR
I so want to see this, was the octupus scene good? Sqeamishly good. I did prefer the tounge scene. One of the few films I've ever seen where I've not even half guessed the ending. And the ending kind of kicks in half an hour before the film finishes, then it twists the knife around a few times for good measure. Didn't actually notice the hammer fight was all in one take though, I guess it wasn't that impressive. What was impressive was him the throwing against the window bit. Popo
Hammer fight - fucking class. Squid scene - lovely jubbly. DIY dentistry scene - bananas. Final scene - OMGWTFLOL!!!!1 Go see this movie, it's really really really really good. The ending is a unsatisfying, but it's quite the little movie while it lasts. mr.miffed
Awesome, payday's next thursday I'll get it then. Cheers for mentioning yesasia.com I'd not heard of it, some good stuff on it. Looks like a bigger selection than dddhouse.com if a bit more expensive.
Seerow
Sort of guessed what the ending was likely to be early on, which is really really annoying. Click For Spoiler The octopus twitching after he passes out is just the best thing ever.
des
I thought the ending was quality, not that I'm into that sort of stuff or anything. It did seem like a happy ending to me though, what with ignorance being bliss. Probably the best mix of storyline, morals and violence I've ever seen in a film. It also seemed really well produced. Is the film market in Korea much bigger than in Japan?
Cacophanus
Daesu is one of the best characters in cinema, ever. I loved this too and the Korean DVD set is lush as well.
Tofu
yeah the Koreans are really comming on with films, l highly recommend Attack the Gas station which is one of the funniest films l seen this year. l didn't really like Oldboy that much, it was wee too nasty for me. Dimahoo
A fantastic film. Really dark with a shocker ending. Happy ending though? Hardly.

Dimahoo
Oldboy has a far more clever story then Ichi and the violence in Oldboy is much more realistic. It really hammers home.
Reynard
Itchi's more of a gross-out, whereas Old Boy's a lot more psychologically unsettling and is the better film for it. It's not fantastic or anything, but it's deffo worth viewing.
StephenM
Saw it the other day, then saw it again tonight. Brilliant, so many people haven't seen this, so who cares if I'm posting in a way old thread, if it alerts one more person to see it, it's worth it. Just...brilliant. I really liked it. And I really like this - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...ssPageName=WDVW but it's quite expensive...

Goose
Anyone explain the ending to me? My version had no subtitles so I ended up not watching all of it. Waiting for the R2 release.
StephenM
The ending from where exactly? Basically: Click For Spoiler He found out he'd been sleeping with his daughter, that was the trick, and he cut his tongue out to punish himself for what he'd done (spread the rumours when he was younger). Then he basically got himself hypnotised to not remember it, but the ending with Mido asking 'Were you with someone?' and him breaking down suggested that he remembered it all. Not that he could tell her anyway, with his lack of tongue...
Goose
Ahhhh, thankyou! Wow! As for the hammer scene - It is impressive, or was, but because so many people mention it, along with the octopus scene, it will loses its impact (like anything that's infamous)
Rocko
Old Boy is showing in Nottingham until this Thrusday. I'll try to see it. You really should. My favourite film of this year.
