Dubious Honour?

Fucking hell, this is starting to piss me off now, so I'm going to spell it out:

I just don't fancy playing it, same as I don't fancy buying Westlife records, or MacDonalds for tea, or watching Bridget Jones: Edge of Reason. It really is that simple.

I don't much like films such as Goodfellas or Casino either. It's just not my bag. Guns, gangsters, swearing - yawn! So I didn't much fancy Vice City. I don't like Star Trek, so I wouldn't buy a Star Trek game. Etc, etc, etc.

Do you get it now? Please say you do, because it really would cheer me up.

Videogames have got to the point where they can represent several genres. We no longer have to play everything. I actually think that's a good thing, but it seems some of you are saddled with this attitude that you have to like every setting, or at least put up with it, just because it's a videogame.

Apologies for the rant, but I can't believe that my viewpoint, which none of you would question if applied to any other media, is facing such a brick wall.

Don't worry about it mate I'm sure the next Barbie game will be the next Edge ten, and be the sandbox game that leaves GTA:SA in the cold. Then you can rant at all the guys refusing to play it as the subject matter doesn't interest them.

Beertiger, you say Los Santos is the worst station ever, but really that's just your opinion, and as a younger than you look, uncool beer swilling pasty white man I can understand that.

But you're WRONG!!!!!

\/

You're wrong. The only good tracks on Los Santos are from Dre, NWA and of course Cypress Hill. It isn't actually that bad. I though it was going to be modern shite the way everyone was going on about it.

The best are

Play Back

Bounce

SF UR

K DST

Radio X

but yeah Los Santos isn't bad at all really. From the way people were going on i though it was rammed with shite like 50 cent, Nelly and all the other random crap that's out.

I REALLY REALLY REALLY don't understand why people think that SHIT like 50 Cent is comparable with classic 90's hip hop. It shows an ignorance of the genre that is beyond comprehension.

The game is set in 1992 right? So why on earth would it have anything like that on it anyhow?

Im not saying you should have an indepth knowledge of a genre you don't know about, but being well read musically might be a start.

Musical ignorance!

Im quite happy that you've had a listen now and seem to quite like it though. All the stations are of a high quality.

that's the thing though, i know it isn't comparable.

i was just going by other peoples reactions and before i had the game i thought it would be modern rubbish. i didn't know the game was set in 1992 either as i haven't been following it at all. all i knew was that 50 cent has a voice part in this, not sure if he still does.

yes all the stations are exceptional. I haven't heard as many funny adverts though but this doesn't matter as the dialogue between the main characters is well written and amusing enough.

in fact i fucking love this game now. still going back though to be repurchased in six months time on a different format.

I find it geniunely odd that people find this such a turn off. You dismiss "gangsta rap" as a genre, but do you honestly not realise how wide and varied a genre hip hop is? I've never liked Tupac and plenty of other acts and rappers, but it hasn't stopped me enjoying what I do like within that genre. Basing your opinion on the genre based on a couple of tracks you've heard strike me as comparable to someone else deciding they don't like English music because they didn't like a couple of Shed Seven tunes and an Oasis track.

I totally understand why just cruising downtown Los Santos with the radio on is more enjoyable for me because the music is tied in with happy memories of that time, of summer and basketball and having fun. Its the soundtrack to part of my life, but not for everyone.

I'd love to see a London based GTA episode, and a Tokyo one, and on and on.

dude, the game doesnt interest him. is that really so hard to comprehend?

I never played Final Fantasy VII

Like I said, I find it hard to understand why its such a turn off. A Final Fantasy type game with a basketball or hip hop theme wouldn't interest me because it is a different type of game. I'm referring to people who like GTA, who like the game ideas and who like that kind of game but are actually turned off to the point of not playing them.

I don't care that Animal Crossing or Pikmin look colourful and cute, well not that I don't care, I do, but it doesn't put me off to the degree that I would deny myself the opportunity to enjoy that experience.

I know people who won't watch films with subtitles, because "they don't like them". Does that sort of attitude not puzzle and frustrate you sometimes?

Along with your other "joke" comment in the other place, Im actually, honestly and quite sincerely a bit puzzled and disappointed that you're doing what amounts to not much more than plain trolling.

Fable's setting wasn't my exact cup of tea, but I gave it a go and really enjoyed the game. The icing of the setting and the mediocre story took away little if anything from my enjoyment, and I actually really liked the presentation of the story scenes, the illustrations and what not. If however I had really been into that kind of fantasy setting then I think it would have added a lot. As I mentioned, I understand I enjoy SA for its setting more than others will. Everything I've said about people being WRONG!"!! or idiots or uncool is clearly tongue in cheek.

If this game was about heavy metal or anything else, then I don't think it'd mean so much, but I know it wouldn't put me off the game entirely. The only reason I'd give to not try it out would be that I'm stacked with games to play at the moment and can't devote the time. Not many people have the time to watch every film out there, or play every game. Picking films you think you'll enjoy more based on your tastes is normal, and as games mature it will become true of them too. Right now though, a game with so much to offer does not deserve to be snubbed for its setting.

What if someone refused to play Halo 2 because they didn't like space marines or aliens? (I know I know its not directly comparable.)

Steady on, I didn't make that statement about hip hop. I'm really into stuff like People Under the Stairs and I enjoy UK stuff like Roots Manuva, one of my friends is a hip hop nut and he sends me albums all the time. Gangsta Rap though, it's just moronic and tasteless.

what the fuck are you talking about stiff?

What YOU was doing was trolling. You was saying that people who didnt like the setting were sad white geeks. All I pointed out was circa 92 west coast hip hop 'nigga' culture isnt cool any more and you was just as out of touch as anyone else. It may well see a ressurgence after this game, but as of right now, your superior attitude is very misguided. All I did was berate your berating. And I was being just as tongue in cheek. Shame on your double standards.

If someone told me that didnt play halo cos of the setting i'd probably say something along the lines of 'fair enough'.

to set the record straight: Davros, did you like the other GTA III games? cos if so then even I find it kinda strange that the setting would be that much of a turn off.

I find the setting a turn off. I enjoyed the previous 2 games but got fed up of the missions after a bit. If I hadn't played those then I would probably get Andreas. But I have; so unappealing scenario + pretty much the same game = not for me.

Jesus, I don't know how you, or anyone could possibly think I was being serious when insisting that anyone who didn't like this stuff was cool. Its like 12 years old. ;) I just still like it.

Uncle Nasty, there was quality music along with the shit during the gangsta rap sort of stuff. If something sounds good then good. I don't think there are many examples of poor music in the soundtrack. The Ohio Players track is boss.

Fucking hell stiff, what happened to you. I DIDNT THINK YOU WAS BEING SERIOUS. And i'll say it just as loud: I WASNT BEING SERIOUS EITHER.

All this gang banging is seriously affecting your sense of humour dood. You need to get a forty and chill the fuck out.

No, not really. I gave Vice City a good crack, cos everyone kept saying how good it was, but I'm just not into Cops & Robbers/Miami Vice/Guns & Cars/Boyz in the Hood type stuff. I could tell it was done very well, but ultimately, I'd rather be doing/playing something else.

Listening to "Raining Blood" while playing did help though... ;)

Heh, I've not been to a gym for fucking ages as it goes.

This week I've eaten 20 nuggets and a large fries one lunchtime, and today I had an 800gram shepherd's pie and 4 marshmallow cakes. Im eating a bueno now.

Im sorry if I seem angry, I've been busy this week with some fairly manic stuff, so I've just been bashing out messages and not reading them back like I normally do.

And Kerraig, stop picking on me. :'(
