Outrun 2 : Special Tours

I didn't know OR2 had suffered poor sales on XBox so far - what a dissapointment.

I think, deep down, all Outrun2 fans realised that this would be the case.

Another absolute classic sinks without a trace...

Let's just count ourselves lucky that the original version even got a release on Xbox.

yeah its a million times more fun than burnout 3, but alas the world is full of 14 year old boys who are idiots.

maybe it is the people who adore Outrun 2 and think it is a great racegame who are the idiots.

people just didnt want to fork out 40 quid for what they saw as an arcade conversion. they completely overlooked the extra stuff added in and the fact it was meant to be a pick up, play, put down, play something else, pick up, play again kinda game (or so i think any road). Bah, their fucking loss.

Yeah, we've had a couple of returns/trade in's of OutRun 2 at work and almost everyone had only played the Arcade mode. :P

Me - "Have you tried the missions?"

Customer - "What? Missions...no, I just played arcade mode and did a couple of routes"

Me - "Oh...right..."

yea, who'd have thought the best thing about OR2's port wasn't the arcade game.

I'm failing to understand why even real casuals haven't bought outrun 2 in their droves, I have a lot of mates who only play the odd game and all of them recognise the outrun name, and those that have played it have loved it instantly.

It's pretty much got the accessibility/depth balance down as well. It's really easy to pull nice big impressive power slides straight away, but there is near unlimited scope to get better (for me at least).

Whats wrong with people, really...

I really, really enjoyed OR2 for a month or so but this week have just hit a wall in the missions, it's gotten frustratingly hard too quickly for me. It now seems like I'm playing for the sake of completing it rather than because I enjoy it.

So I'm going to take it back in exchange for Fable or Halo 2 next week if I bottle out of my pre-order with Amazon and go for a shop copy. Feels a bit sad really as I enjoyed it a hell of a lot whilst it lasted but there's only the missions left and, as I say, they are frustrating rather than fun now.

I'm not too bothered about the sequel.

Ten reasons why OutRun 2 didn't sell like the hot cakes:

1) Burnout 3

2) All the magazines marked it down for being too short

3) Burnout 3

4) It was released at the begining of the pre-Christmas rush where money would be more likely to go toward games like Halo 2 or...

5) Burnout 3

6) It just isn't "cool". An allegation that can't be leveled at games such as Juiced, SRS, NFSU2 and...

7) Burnout 3

:) Sega didn't bother to advertise it, unlike EA who bombarded the media with...

9) Burnout 3

10) People are actually DEAD INSIDE

Would it be to much to ask for Special Tours as Content Download? Or is that to much to ask?

I think it would.

The graphics have been upgraded and considering that the Xbox struggles with what we have in OutRun 2, I think it would be too much to ask of it.

Not to mention that OutRun 2 SP consists of a whole new course layout plus the original courses overhauled. I can't even begin to imagine how much data that would be to transfer.

Point 2 - Edge and GamesTM gave it decent scores a 7 and 8 respectively, IIRC.

But yes, it's a crying shame it hasn't sold well. It's a beautiful game to play. It's actually a perfect chill out game. The arcade mode is incredibly laid back and so much fun that it just never gets boring. Biggest surprise of the year, I'd say. For me, anyway, as I just felt it wouldn't be my cup of tea, but you can't go wrong with a game of such quality.
