Recommend Me A Whisky

Well I have to say after two weeks in Mexico and making loads of Canadian friends I have become rather partial to Crown Royal and Gibsons. Sadly only managed to get a bottle of Crown from the duty free as they had no Gibsons. Did nab a lovely bottle of Herrudura plata as well mind. As I got quite partial to that and Don Julio whilst on my hols.

£16 for the Crown and the Tequila. Ain't duty free brilliant.

I recommend you all try Kilchoman Machir Bay.

Kilchoman is the first distillery to be built on Islay in 120 odd years so, for now, they do not make a great deal of whisky but, after a nip in a fine bar in Edinburgh, and then buying a bottle, I am very much smitten..

It's a softer take on the Islay signature but still has that peaty bite so it'll be interesting to see how the whisky develops as the casks mature..

Why are those the options, out of interest?

If I was upgrading from JD/JB I'd probably start at Makers Mark or Elijah Craig, because they will have some of the sweetness.

Woodford Reserve is my go to bourbon, and is reduced in a few of the supermarkets at the moment.

Price and local availability - not going to spend more than £22. I'll have a lookout for Woodford Reserve though, thanks,

Talisker Storm is coming up in the Amazon Black Friday sale at 9.

Edit - motherfuckers won't deliver to the Isle of Man. Twenty four sodding quid as well. Slags.

I had some of that recently and compared it directly to bog-standard Talisker. It's more peppery and seemed less sweet to me. Really nice.

I've stopped popping an ice cube in recently, I'm not sure why. Definitely makes you think more about the flavours I find.

My favourite so far I think is Strathisla 12yr old, I find that to be really delicious. Kind of fruity.

The bottle I'm working through at the moment is Bowmore Small Batch Reserve. A bit disappointing for me, probably the first of the whiskeys I've bought that has just sat on the shelf as I don't find myself that bothered to nip at it.

Makers is nice, but boring after a while, I honestly prefer Buffalo Trace.

Bulleit has more Rye in it, so is more dry and fiery.

Money no object Bourbon is Blantons Gold, look at this ridiculous thing @60 quid a bottle, delicious

Blanton-Gold-Edition-Single-Barrel-Whisk

The problem there, of course, is that you're paying £60 and you still end up with Bourbon. ;)
