Will prob go on what looks on offer nearer the time, since I'm happy to try them all at some stage.

Random whisky note: I find that drinking some water just before I have a sip of single malt is much nicer than adding water to the glass. The little extra water just opens up the flavour of the malt.

Saw a decent offer in Tesco today they have Auchentoshan american oak on for £20. Not an world beating whisky but well well worth £20.

Lidl is doing a 28 year old "Ben Bracken" (who?) Speyside for £50. Might try and nab a bottle if there are still any around when I get paid this week.

Rather bizarrely, there's a Ben Bracken Speyside and a Ben Bracken Islay. Perhaps the distillery is in a caravan.

Picked up a bottle of auchentoashan American Oak fromTesco. £20 a bottle.

Never seen or heard of it before but picked it up due to the price. Lovely stuff, quite light and zesty. Not the most complex but easy drinking

Any of you guys had Aberlour A'bunadh? It's a cask strength whiskey at about 60% ABV. Waitrose have it on offer at the moment at £33.50 for a 70cl bottle. They're currently running a £30 off a £100 pound shop. Which would work out at £23.50 a bottle for 3. Is it a no brainer? I love the 12 year Aberlour.

Waitrose discount Abunadh at some point every year. It's great stuff and should be bought at every opportunity.

I was away all weekend and got to try a few drops in the hotel bar. They had a 15yr old Dalwhinnie which I didn't like at all - I found it really sharp and unpleasant on the throat, an older Glenfiddich (not sure which) and Talisker Skye, which were both quite nice. The star of the show though was a Bowmore taster which I had at duty free on the way home. It was absolutely delicious and I was going to take a bottle back with me. The dude's face lit up until I kindly declined when he told me the price was (I forget exactly) over a hundred quid for a bottle. I can see why though, it was properly delectable.

I went home with a litre of Jura Turas Mara which i also had a taster of and that's really good too. Quite fruity.

Was originally looking at this Dalwhinnie 15 year old or this Balvenie 12 year old.

Anyone got any recommendations for about £35? I don't think he likes it too sweet.

Aldi are touting a vintage THREE year old Scotch, and another that doesn't even mention the age. Anyone brave enough to try?

If anyone is coming back through a duty-free before Christmas you can't go too wrong by picking up a bottle of Glenfiddich Select Cask either as a gift or a gift to oneself.

No mention of the age, but it's delightfully mellow. This has been my Skyrim accompaniment for well over a year now. The Reserve Cask (red) is a few quid more, but a bit too rich for my liking.

Going to give Laphroaig 10 a go, but was looking for something completely different and have stumbled on to bourbon.

I've seen Knob Creek and Woodford Reserve recommended in here. Would be looking at drinking it neat/on ice rather than mixing - is there much to choose from between the two, other than about seven quid at checkout?

Personally I thought Woodford Reserve was pretty bland even for making Old Fashioned's with let alone drinking neat.

That looks pretty good. I wanted something I could go out and buy before Christmas so settled on the Woodford Reserve due to Knob Creek being out of stock.

Will look into the Blanton's if this one goes down well

I nabbed an Aberlour 12 for £24 and a Maker's Mark for £25 (or maybe the other way round) from Tesco today. I wouldn't normally spend fifty quid on whisk(e)y in one go but I've been after the Aberlour 12 for ages - the 10 is my favourite single malt - and Maker's Mark is my favourite bourbon, and they were both on offer, and it's nearly Christmas, and why not?
