I Want To Collect Every Dreamcast Game Ever Made

Spunky Monkey

Recommended Posts

As per the topic title, i love my DC so much and have been reading all about it all over again. And its spured me to buy every single pal dreamcast game. I believe around 300 or so games were made so its a few games but not exactly a huge amount, and many can be found cheaply.

Ive already got around 40 games, mostly the good and rare ones like shenmue 2, rez, samba etc so it is mainly buying up the cheaper games.

Just wondering if anyone else has done this, any tips or if you want to sell me your great condition second hand pal DC games.

You'll find it's knowhere near 300. I've got a complete official list from Sega somewhere, I think it's about 130. I've got about 95 at the moment.

I know for a fact its more than 130, check out dreamcasthistory.com for a full and complete list of released games.

And Redsquirrel, thats a rather tempting price, but sadly ive already got it, and never will i play it again, great game, wonderful in fact, but never ever again am i going through that.

Why do you want every pal game when there's such a load of shit there? I'm sure you're going to say something along the lines of 'but most of them can be picked up for only a couple of quid' but that's still a fair amount of cash you could put towards something you'll actually end up playing.

I've never seen the point of collecting something just so you can say you've got it all, seems a bit pointless to me. I'd rather get all the good pal games...

Well for me the Dreamcast has a lot of memories attached to it. Also while not every game is great most are extreamly playable and a bit of fun.

Besides it wouldnt be a collection if you didnt collect them all. I can see where you're coming from, but its just nice to have a collection of something, wether its coins, stamps or games, and to me i think the DC will stand the test of time the most, N64 boxes get destroyed in an instance and a lot of games are hardly playable in todays state and other systems just have too many games or TOO much dross. the DC just has a better ratio, and as ive said, theres a lot of memories there and id love a collection.

yeah i must agree with strider. I have tried collecting games, but to be honest whats the point? about 75% are going to be pure shit and you are not gonna be able to play them all unless you quit your job for a year.

The closest I have done to collecting is for the game gear - i have about 70 games for it. Thankfully most of them were cheap-ish but still has cost me a lot to amount that many. And yes a lot of them id never play or they are shit.

Ok I have to apologise to a few people. I've got the official release list from Sega and there are indeed 216 games on it. Don't ask me where I got 130 from. :D If anyone wants a copy just PM your email address. It's a nice excel file and it's about 30 kb.

I think I will abandon my idea of collecting them all as there really is some crap on the list:

Army Men: Sarge's Heroes

Chicken Run

Disney's Dinosaur

Donald Duck: Quack Attack

Qui veut gagner des millions :D

Stupid Invaders

I'm sure there's more than that. :D

Anyway Spunky Monkey, would you really play the following games on a regular basis? If you don't, are they really worth the 2-6 quid you'd proabably have to pay for each one?

I was trying to get every single shmup for the Saturn (but after playing the likes of Steam Hearts, Planet Joker and a few others, I know they're nowhere near the money they go for. I'm simply collecting the cream of the crop (which admittedly, is still a lot of games.

Anyway, I wish you all the best and when you've got em all, give me a call; I'll stick em in the mag for yah...

Hope you dont mean in the for sale section :D

I doubt i will play all of them, but theres so many games on this list that id love to have in my collection even from a nostalgic point of view, such as toy commander, ready to rumble, speed devils and so on.

And at the end of the day it is nice to have a collection of something you enjoy, having something to show for it all, otherwise id just download every single DC game.

Its hard to put into words what i mean, its just nice having a collection, be they pokemon cards or memorbilia etc.

If that's the Excel file I'm thinking of, that Sega put on their site, I think there were one or two mistakes on it, so don't treat it as gospel just because it's 'official'. Still, it was nice of them to do it.

Plus, on the PS2, there is a higher ration of bad games to good than on the Dreamcast, also, the PS2 has a lot of unknown budget releases as well which aren't really worth a purchase although saying that one such game is called Seek and Destroy which is a tank arcade game very similar to a Namco arcade game called Tokyo Wars. It looks good fun, has anyone played it?. Is it really Tokyo Wars?. As I loved it in the arcades.

this is way off topic but - don't bother with it - it is SHIT. as is most of the other games from that "Play It" budget range. IMO only Road Trip Adventure is somewhat playable/fun/original. They have also released the Strikers 1945 1 & 2 budget pack, don't know if it's good or not..

There was a massive amount of dross released on the DC, as well as some great games.

I can certainly understand the collecting thing, though. Until recently I have been amassing games for every system under the sun. However, pressure from my girlfriend, who just moved in, and pressure due to space issues, has encouraged me to actually go through all of my gaming goods. I have been narrowing my collection to games that I actually like and that I want to own.

The rest will be punted on ebay or will/have already been taken to Gamestation. Traded in about 20 dreadful Saturn games (£4 for Formula Karts ;) ) and tonnes of Master System games and will use this to buy the likes of Halo Poo and Paper Mario 2.

yes. Got 5 copies. ;)

i wish. What makes it worse is i saw a copy of it for sale at my local indie when the NGPC came out.

I did as well. And I bought it.

And then sold it with the NGPC for £20. I also threw away the first copy of Retro Gamer two weeks ago. Which is now on Ebay for about £50.

I was hugely lucky with this one and got it for £50 just before the price went through the roof <_<

On the DC collection front. I have about 120-140 Pal games and there isn't another one game worth buying. I really wouldn't bother with it. Most of the games I have were bought when it was a current console and many of them I would never play again.

Surely the collection side of it isn't about playing the games or not, the challenge and enjoyment comes from finding them not necessairly playing them.

Ultimately most collections serve no practical use, but that doesn't mean its a waste of time.

The only really expensive one to get would be Samba most other titles should come in at under or around a fiver.
