I revisited this last night for the sake of finally getting the Pit of 100 Trials done (I've completed the main story). It took me longer than planned to get to 50 (and with my current stats and badges, the first 40 are insultingly easy).

I'll finally get to it on the weekend.

I got battered by the last boss. Ho hum, I thought, yet another great nintendo game I'll never finish because the last boss is far too hard. Then I asked my brother about it (for whom I often need to beat the bosses, in whatever game he is playing) and he beat it!?!!

I even read up on the strategy on Gamefaqs but still got battered. I don't know if I can face going back and wandering around levelling up for ages before having another pop.

Is there a boss on the Pit of 100 Trials or are you talking about the last boss in the main game?

I'm getting a little scared now

The last boss in the main game. I got there but I wasn't strong enough to beat it.

It is possible to get back to the main game area but it was such a long trek to get where I was I couldn't face the back tracking so I gave up.

I played the game again a few months later with my wife - taking care to level up rather than rushing through and we beat the last boss without too much trouble.

My wife has been playing through this. I want to play it myself at some point but I have a question - is it possible to change the music played during battles? It always seems to be the same irritating music all through the game, whichever area you are in. I know there are badges that let you change the colour of your clothes and so on, so I'm hoping there's a music-changing badge, is there?

But can you get back to the main area? I'm stranded at the save point just before the last boss(es). I don't have any mushrooms and can nearly win...but not quite. I need some mushrooms! Soooo...anyone know if it is definetly possible to get back to the main hub? 'Cos I've tried. And can't.

Definitely possible, just backtrack through the last few areas. The enemies won't respawn so you don't get sidetracked, it's still a pretty dull trek to get back to Rogueport sewers though.

When you come back into the Palace of Shadow all of the regular enemies will be back, so you have to make your way through them again.

A shop somewhere near the final boss would've been handy. But easy!

Finished this last night. Just short of 40 hours all together.

Didn't have too much of a problem with the final boss(es), but had to go back to Rogueport sewers once to get more mushrooms. Slow shrooms and life shrooms are definite must-haves.

Good game, all in all. It has some boring bits, but gets much better the more you play. Certainly good enough for me to finish it, which I wasn't originally gonna bother with.

Having searched for this at a suitable discounted price online since launch date, I eventually accepted the fact that Nintendo software NEVER appears in sales or offers, and resorted to a nice mint copy from eBay...

Whilst I like the format and structure I find this type of game more suited to a handheld (don't ask me why!). I have gleaned far more enjoyment out of Superstar Saga and Partners in Time than I fear I ever will with this one...

Oh FFS, this game has just really, really pissed me off.

Died on the last form of the last boss who had like 5hp left.

Not a problem, I'll try again.

Oh yes, it is a problem. I have to sit here for what feels like 5 thousand bastarding hours watching the same video again. Why, oh why, can't I skip it and get onto the fight.

And then don't forget the lovely long video mid fight too.

Fucking hate it when shit like this happens.

Done it now though, walked it the 2nd time.

I had to watch them six times, before I beat it. SIX TIMES. That's like, about an hour's worth of repeated unskippable boss fight cutscenes. From Nintendo, of all companies. People can complain about Metal Gear, but this is the worst cutscene offence I've enountered. I'd go off and get a snack, except you have to press the A button after each line of dialogue. FFS!?*&!!

Fantastic script though. I've never played a game that made me actively hunt for dialogue, PM2 knows its audience and rewards you for doing so. There are some crows you can eavesdrop on in Twilight Town using a special power and in one tree they're having an extended discussion on the depletion of fossil fuels. Then after I'd completed that section and returned later in the game the discussion had moved on to the effiency of solar panels. Brilliant.

The game felt too long, I'd settle for half the amount of fights, what with all the backtracking. Loved the puzzles, easily the best thing about the game. The WWF themed level kept me up all night as I couldn't put the controller down.

Speaking of which, this sounds bizarre, but I had two controllers break on me while playing. Not cutscene related, but the GAME branded controller I started with (which I didn't buy) lost half of its analogue movement towards the right during the jungle level, which is the one with all the platforming. Talk about a bad place to not be able to run right. I nearly did break the controller trying to compensate with Yoshi for running jumps across the water. Then half the analogue movement to the left died, then right dies completely and it got stuck in left.

Found a Wavebird in the attic, but, get this - the Start button and D-Pad only worked in menus and the A-button only worked for certain characters! I couldn't pull off Yoshi's or Bo-omb's attacks as the A button wasn't recognized for these characters. So I completed the game with two half-working controllers, constantly swapping them over depending on buttons I needed to use!
