Ps2 "hidden Treasures"

for the saturn and dreamcast you can find those little gems almost by accident. you know, an almost completely unknown (for us in the west anyway) game that turns out to be gold. like obscure arcade ports, puzzlers, fighters, racers, compilations, maybe budget only games that perhaps only were released in japan or slipped out unnoticed here in the west. there must be lots and lots of great games that only got released in japan and asia right? i wonder if any of you can recommend such games to hunt down for the PS2.

Ring of Red - a tatical war sim

Metropolismania - Natsume does Sim City

SOS - a survial game set on an island hit by an earthquake

Road Trip Adventure - crap racing, enjoyable adventuring

Mad Maestro - one of the few games to use the PS2's analouge buttons

Mobile Light Force 2 - a brilliant 2D shooter

Kury Kuri Mix - visually dated, but great in two-player

Giants - very funny shooter

Shadow of Memories - Konami murder mystry that starts back to front

Flipnic - one of the greatest pinball games ever

Mr Moskeeto - nothing else like it

Fantavision - play it, get stoned, and melt into your TV screen

I've left Gregory Horror Show off this list as it really pissed me off.

:)

get Switch

its a remake of the old mega cd gem, which imo is the best game on the mega cd

play-asia have it for 19bucks, bought it from them but i've never played it

I agree with this choice. It's a really imaginatve experiance. Not a game in the true sense, but a great interactive experiance.

already thought of road trip adventure, will check that out.

mobile light force 2 is shikigami no shiro, right?

SOS looks quite interesting.

Mr Moskeeto looks wonderfully weird. :)

oh and i forgot, i might add tokyo road race (battle gear 2 in japan, taito arcade racer).. so-so graphics, but i think the handling is great.

Guilty Gear X 2.

I found SOS a bit of a frustrating wander-fest for the brief time I played it but it does have "Irem" plastered on the box which might make it attractive as an ebay "rarity" particularly as game are flogging it for £2.97 atm.

Gregory Horror Show and Gitaroo Man are genuinely entertaining.

Has anyone played that PS2 Capcom game with the SD versions of Nemesis & Jill Valentine on the back of the box? I can't remember what its called - sorry.

Giants is available on the PS2 and is a genuinely charming game with real personality.

Played through it last year on the PS2.

It's missing the base building bits of the PC version (you just collect stuff and dump it) and playing through the final third was not as fun as I thought it would be but it was still quite good.

Fantastic cut scenes as well.

Another vote for Fantavision. Simply beautiful. Although it does very bad things to my eyes, just like Rez.

Must remember to blink occasionally.

Under the Skin. We've got it in the shop but I've never thought to try it, funnily enough - even though it looks suitably mad.

Of course, no-one's bought it at all.

In don't think many people picked up Beyond Good & Evil. I know it's available on other formats, but there's not much else like it on the PS2.

If this counts as a hidden gem to anyone, and you didn't play it, then it's essentially a European OOT (it has the same kind of structure as Zelda) with some lovely character design, attention to detail in story and graphics and dialogue that won't make you cringe as it's well delivered, humorous, poignant and slightly subversive in it's mocking of gaming convention.

Disgaea The Hour of Darkness

I haven't played it much yet but I will be doing have no fear, it seems to be an excellent game that deserves to have done better in the UK charts. I haven't had many dealings with tactical rpgs in the past but it reminds me of Advance Wars, which can only be a good thing.
