Rick Dangerous- I Want To Play It Again...

For its time both Rick and Rick 2 were enjoyable platform romps. However, I do remember one magazine (and rightly so) stating that playing the Rick Dangerous games were like a laboratory rat experiment:

- Get to certain point

- Die

- Remember what killed you

- Restart

- Get past point where you last died

- Die

- Remember what killed you

- etc, etc

Before people say "Most games are like this". They're not. Rick 1 and 2 featured loads of hidden dangers that you'd have no way of knowing they were there until you were killed by them.

The gameplay may have dated, but I still find the games good fun.

I have fond memories of it too on my amiga... there was a GBA version (port of no 1) in the works.... i even downloaded a video for it... but ive not herd anything of it for years... ah well... thats would of been an ideal gba game...

Pretty sure it got canned - I remember looking at the official site a couple of months back. Shame, as it looked good - original version plus a very nice looking tarted-up edition.

I used to play RD2 on the Amstrad CPC. I had levels 1 and 4 memorised, my sister did 2 and my mum did 3. Unfortunately we only ever got to level 5 once, and our plan sort of fell apart at that point as no-one had a clue what to do :D

I used to love this on the Amiga. I used to have it on disc along with Robocop, great times. But the game was really hard and you did seem to die for no reason. I never played the sequel but the 'waaah' sound that the enemies made (Amiga version) when struck with dynamite or shot was amusing.

The thing that I never realised was that the game was originally (according to the title) done by Sensible Software, so if that is true then why is the game named after the publisher?.

It is true, but don't know why they called it Microprose Soccer.

Ris from your grave! Rather than start a new thread...there's another nice little Sunday coffee break read on EG. One of my fave games as a youngster, despite the fact I never got very far with it! I remember drawing out the levels on graph paper and trying to mark where the traps and triggers all were. Well, I say 'levels' - I don't think I got past the second stage.

I gobbled this and its sequel up when I was a kid. Stick with it if you can, it's a game that keeps giving, wonderful sense of achievement when you complete it.

Incidentally from the looks of it there's a 'homage' to it out called 1001 spikes? At least it looks like it to me. Can't see the devs mentioning it which rankles somewhat. It's clearly based on dear old Rick.
