Contraband - Velvet Revolver

Yup.. i was going to put that too... so:

Velvet Revolver - Contraband... if you'd told me i'd say that a few months ago I'd laugh in your face. An extremely accomplished album and stunning return to form. Brings back great summer memories including meeting Slash twice at 2 different parties within the space of a week :(

and..

Ghostface - Pretty Toney Album... Similar to above really. Certainly wouldn't have expected something like this from who i consider a lesser Wu.. and again.. great summer memories.

I considered it disappointing.

i didn't take that into consideration when compiling my list, alas.

seriously though, disappointed compared to his previous stuff (which i've yet to check out) or just generally? '1976' is one of the most danceable tracks i've heard all year, and there's a good four or five others i'd play out, which is well worth the £7 i paid for it imo.

As it currently stands:

Secret Chiefs 3 - Book of Horizons

Bjork - Medúlla

Brian Wilson - Smile

Dawn of the Dead - Unreleased

Fantômas - Delìrium Cordìa

I'm going to have to check my collection in detail though, as a lot of my cds this year are older releases. And I've still got some to listen to over the next month.

"STYROFOAM - NOTHING LOST"

If this was January, you still wouldn't convince me there would be a better album than this in 2004, it orbits the planet, briefly and arrogantly glancing down at cave dwellers bashing dinosaurs bobbly tails, xylophone stylee with bits of stick.

Ditto.

Runners up:

Iron & Wine's 'Our Endless Numbered Days'

Sofia's 'People are like Seasons'

The Album Leaf's 'In a safe Place'

I've got it down to around six:

Annie - Anniemal

Talib Kweli - The Beautiful Struggle

The Hives - Tyrannosaurus Hives

The Legends - Up Against The Legends

Graham Coxon - Happiness In Magazines

Kelis - Tasty

I'm pretty sure Annimal will be my favourite from this year.

Modest Mouse - Good News for People Who Love Bad News

I got to see them live on Friday, they were ace, did make me feel a bit old as I was about ten years older than anybody else.

Honorable mentions to:

The Unicorns - Who will cut our hair when we've gone

The Wrens - The Meadowlands (well, its a 2003 release but I didn't hear it till 2004)

Junior Boys - Last Exit

Jason Forrest - The Unrelenting Songs of the 1979 Post Disco Crash

Ooh aye, that's a good 'un. Not listened to it for a while now, will have to give it another spin I reckon.

It's crazy, though. A real workout for the listener (that's a good thing, I think)..
