1945 I And Ii: Arcade Versions

Hey,

I was after some old-school sh'mup thrills on the PS2 so I ordered this from amazon for the grand total of a tenner.

Has anyone played the 1945 games? Is 'Strikers 1945' the same thing? And more importantly, are they any good? I'm hoping they're a bit Gigawingesque...

Cheers!

I have Strikers 1945 II on the PSOne and i quite enjoyed, but i was looking for a straight shooter rather than one with some new gimmick which is what it is

The random level order was a bit annoying, but otherwise i enjoyed it

there's a review of the PS2 version at ntsc-uk, here: http://www.ntsc-uk.com/review.php?platform...me=Strikers1945

I'd ignore the NTSC review mate as I personally think both games are pretty good and nowhere near as bad as they've been made out to be.

both games are rather simplistic by today's standards and feature none of the chain systems etc that you'd get in games like Shikigami No Shiro 2, but for ten pounds it's an absolute steal.

Are we talking about the same 1945 games here...? The one Olitron is talking about is the same as this one:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...ssPageName=WDVW

It has different artwork to the one Strider referred to on ntsc-uk

I'm not being picky, just interested as my local Woolies has the one linked to above and I fancied it but I already have the Ps1 Strikers....game so don't want to buy the same game again.

If I sound confused...I am!

I'm pretty sure they reviewed the NTSC version, but it's the same as the PAL one.

If you have PAL Strikers (I think the second one was released here) then you have half the pack already (although it will look slightly better on the PS2).

The ntsc-uk review is a joke. Strikers II is my favourite shmup.

Psyvariar and Ikaruga are great but there's still something immensely satisfying about the old fasioned Psykio shooter. Just worry about staying alive instead of chaining stuff. Lots of strategy to the charge shot as well. It isn't apparent initially but becomes incredibly important with repeat play.

Yep, that's the same one as mine.

It arrived today and plays great by the way. A lot like Gunbird 2 (which I think is Psykio as well?) Even has a tate mode! Definitley recommended at that price. :P

I always pick up the budget games - Mobile Light Force etc. Bought this a while ago (having played 1945 Strikers 2 on ht PS), and it's fab.

I'm abig shmups fan and dicking about on this is a top laugh. Can't go wrong for a tenner.

Also picked up Steel Dragon a few weeks back. Not heard of it before but on the disc you get the original (looks like a SNES/MD or early arcade port) and a major update (tho IMO I think it's possible a fan re-make). Oddly enough I prefer the original....

But I'm enjoying Metal Slug 3 right now. Hooray! :D

It's Shienryu and originally appeared on the Saturn
