For punk new(ish) I recommend anything on this list :)

Actually, PM me your address and I'll send you a copy, if you want.

Yeah, if he wants to be an arse loving fag! Go buy a Hawaiian shirt hippy. Pop punk is for little girls.

Get an Eighties Matchbox B-line disaster album. Maybe a Misfits collection album too. They are for proper manly types.

And the re-master of Back in Black by AC/DC is out now, could be worth a shot?

Look at his list. Coheed would be perfect.

You think maybe I should have put In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth 3 between the Fountains of Wayne and Something Corporate tracks?

Although I wouldn't want to speak for the person who started this thread, I must have missed the post where he asked for Hardcore/Emo recommendations.

(To be fair, tracks 10-15 on my mix CD are not really punk, because I was making a CD not a list of good punk songs... For this reason, some good punk bands worth checking out are missing, too: Bouncing Souls, Anti-Flag, Adequate Seven... and anything pre-1990)

Yeah, but

and

?

Debateable, IMO.

Debatable? Yes.

It's wicked to find out about as many bands as possible though... I didn't know any hardcore bands 6 months ago, now I'm loving it.

My 'punk' progression has gone thusly (abridged, natch) since '94:

Green Day > Rancid > NOFX > Propagandhi > DFL > Goldfinger > Anti-Flag > Capdown > Choking Victim > Crass > Five Knuckle > Minor Threat > Malefaction > Darkest Hour

Note: not that any bear any direct connection to the other, but all connected through scene/influence/liner notes.

If you'll notice, all of the above were mentioned* in my recommendations (except Goldfinger - yes, I'm ashamed, but they were good at the time). Just trying to give the man as many starting points as possible... There's so much out there that I have never heard of and the likelihoods are that if he gets in to - for example - Darkest Hour, he'll like at least one of the other bands in that list.

* Except Anti-Flag... add them in.

Punk eh, download my favourite Ramones track:

My Brain Is Hanging Upside Down (Bonzo Goes to Bitburg)

That Ramones track is great, one of my favourites.

if you like them check out the Riverdales, who sound pretty similar. their album Storm the Streets is a classic.

I have to say I didn't take to the Riverdales album as much as the Face to Face stuff. Except Mentally Retarded which I like

A few tracks I like a lot just now:

The Walkmen The Rat

Von Bondies Cmon Cmon
