Can anyone answer me this? in practice would it be possible to put programs onto the memory sticks and then play them - you know, like emulators and that? seeing RallyX just gets me excited about the retro-uses of this machine.

Yeah its perfectly possible. It'll be interesting to see if PSP homebrew development is as active as XBox's. It remains to be seen if executables can run off the Mem Stick but i'm sure some enterprising person somewhere or other will get it working. And that means the potential for emulation of pretty much anything - in particular GBA software would be particularly... interesting...!

Sic 'im, Choddo.

He has now conceded "Yes... now I know... looking at my PSP..."

Don't know if he's just mad or Japanese (can't think of any other reason he'd have one already), but at least Alex's pic made me win an argument which is always nice

Just saw my email from PA too. Basically it's double price if you want it now, and are prepared to pay a massive premium.

I was maybe prepared to go a little higher, as my best guess at UK release price is £180 (value pack), but £280 + customs hit is out of the question.

Catalyst at Tokyopia reports:

The PSP reports 51% battery charge out of the box. The unit is used

(to play assorted games and videos) until it shuts down due to low

battery. It is then recharged to 100%.

Ridge Racers is inserted, and the AC Adaptor is unplugged. The PSP is

powered on and as the Ridge Racers logo appears, the clock is

started. The game is played continuously, with minimal time spent in

any menus and absolutely no replays watched.

The PSP is set to 75% max volume and brightness 3 (the highest

possible when using the battery).

Results:

At 3:45 - 3:48 (that's three hours and forty-five minutes) the POWER

light begins flashing slowly. Note that the light stays green, it

doesn't change color a la Nintendo's handhelds when the battery is

low--it flashes instead.

At 4:03:30, just over four hours, the game is interrupted by a

flashing low battery indicator, and the unit powers down.

So there you have it. Almost 4 hours exactly with max brightness and

more than adequate volume (especially if using headphones, which I

was not). Invest in a spare battery pack, and you've got no less than

8 hours of gaming (unless you're using the wireless adaptor, I

suppose).

Bottom line: You'll get 4 hours on RR at max brightness before the battery goes out.

Memory Stick "Games" folder (seperate from game saves) + Sony-confirmed download-a-game-via-Wifi-for-multiplayer mode + Flashable firmware = B)

Battery life: teh woot.

As for the screen, IGN say it has some vertical banding issues on movie UMDs and the reds tend to bleed a bit.

Shame nobody's talking about the analog stick. All IGN say on controls is that the d-pad squeaks a bit.

It doesn't.

But then you realise that it's a game and a 1GB memory stick over the RRP and then you think "Yes it does seem bad."

I've spent all day looking around Shinjuku, Ikebukuro, Ueno and Akihabara and there's not a PSP to be had anywhere!

They are almost impossible to find in Tokyo, Japan, let alone the rest of the world. RRP is irrelevant right now.

My friend found one today in Ikebukuo Bic Camera (which I had visited just two hours before). They'd had new stock and there was a very long queue. One hour later and she'd bought her boyfriends Christmas present.

Bloody bugger. She didn't even know what a PSP was until I told her yesterday.

She texted me asking where the DVD's go
