That play-asia banner for Ridge Racers isn't helping matters at all.

I really really really want one of these, and it looks like i'm going to have to wait until february/march time now.

I wish sony wouldn't drip feed its products onto the fucking market to create hype. It's a fantastic marketing strategy, but by christ it's frustrating.

The crazy thing is, this time next year they'll be shovelling them to us for £100 a pop, with a free game... <_<

The football game looks shockingly shit, I hope this is just because its an early version but I prefer games to run at more than about 2fps.

I thought that too. Looks like it's been made by the same people responsible for the This Is Football series.

Best to wait for WE.

I have to say I'm a bit underwhelmed by this video.

The framerate looks a bit low (might be the WMV), and the games look very uninspired.

To be honest, the only games that even remotely interest me at the mo' are RR and Lumines. Although Wipeout looks nice.

The system's just been released and the first batch of games out for a new [non-Nintendo] console are always a little shoddy-looking and sometimes even ports/remakes of existing titles. Hell, even the DS has suffered a little from this as well.

Just need to give the system time to find its feet, I guess.

I think I'll wait until they've got the build quality sorted out. Something I found in ugvm ...

Or maybe I'll wait a bit longer, having seen this collection of problems

Yeah - I've been following these. There was a similar armful with the DS at launch.

I would never choose to import a console/handheld from JP at launch.

Oh, I dunno. Everyone who bought a 1st gen Jap PS2 found it was DVD region free out of the box due to an oversight! And unlike PAL buyers they had RGB output...

My GBA and Cube are still going strong too.

Some of that stuff has been confirmed as fake (or 'jokes') on other forums, certainly number 7. Come on guys, you know what the interweb is like.

Yes, but I also know what sonys build quality is like.

The only ps2s i've ever bought have both been defective, and replaced.

I agree, my Sony stuff in general, from monitors to dvd players, have all gone wrong before their time, while my other, cheaper, options have survived. Don't get me wrong, their build quality is slightly dubious, and I never thought I'd find myself defending the PSP or Sony, but it's just so sad in this case when people resort to Photoshop and spreading lies to make a console look bad. They are all simply taking advantage of the fact that not many people at this point in time have actually played on the console, so we haven't formed our own opinions and have to trust others. I've never seen so much hatred during a console launch.

I don't believe this to be true. I had a PS2 1 week after its Jap launch. Couldn't afford any games & it certainly didn't play DVD's from a different region. It sat in its box and was used as a door stop for a couple of months before I sold it on!

is it worth asking what you bought it for in the first place?

IIRC you had to install drivers for it from a DVD (well that bit I know for sure as I watched it happen). They then released an updated version as the bundled disc enabled the error. Like you though I must admit the friend I know who did this also flogged his PS2 within a couple of months and hasn't bought another since. BUt thats by the by.

Lik Sang....

Please ignore this email if you decide to wait for the PSP price to drop down, or reply immediately if you want us to process your order still before Christmas.

The first deliveries of Sony PSP Value Packs are now getting in and will soon be ready to ship. Because of the shortage and other circumstances described in our recent PSP updates and emails, the price is unfortunately hiked and will stay like this until early next year. At this point of time you have three options:

Option #1: Get your PSP shipped as soon as possible

---------------------------------------------------

- Only "Value Packs" for $529 (EUR 398/GBP 275) can be shipped currently

- Only Ridge Racers or Vampire Chronicle can be shipped ($59.90)

- Please confirm which game you want us to ship, or if you want both of them

- Other games will soon be ready seperately (Free Shipping Worldwide)

- Due to the shortage, the PSP price will NOT drop before next year

- Only insured UPS shipping is available ($30-$40 depending on location)

- Credit Card or Telegraphic Transfer (T/T) to HK only (payment in US$)

- Other items in your order will be separated & process within 5 to 14 days

Please reply to this email and tell us that you want us to ship your system. We will set everything up for you and keep you informed about the status.

Please keep your confirmation email as short as possible and confirm without asking questions that are already answered in this email or in the PSP Update on our web site. This helps Lik Sang a great deal in providing fast servicing of answers and rush processing or the orders.

Important: There are tight deadlines and only the fastest ones can make it to the first shipments.

Sony PSP Value Pack Content:

- PSP Hardware (PSP-1000K Value Pack)

- PSP Memory Stick Duo 32MB

- PSP Headphones With Remote Control

- PSP Soft Case & Hand Strap

- PSP AC Adapter (100V-240V, 50/60Hz, works worldwide)

- PSP Battery Pack

- Free Travel Plug (to fit in your country)

Option #2: Keep your position & wait for the price to normalize

---------------------------------------------------------------

- Due to the shortage, the price will NOT drop before next year

- There is no guarantee when Sony will make more units available

- If you decide to wait, you will not loose your position

- Other payment and shipping options will be available next year

If you choose to wait for cheaper stock to arrive, there is no need to reply to the email, as ignoring the first launch offer still lets you keep your spot in the reservation list. If you decide to ask questions, we will reply to them once the initial mass shipment has left our warehouse and all first-release orders have been dealt with.

Please understand that this is the only way to get thousands of PSP systems shipped in time.

That is fucking disgraceful. Are they really saying that because stock is short they are putting the price up. Sweet Baby Jesus.

NCSX did the same to me with my Cube. Supply and demand/standard practice surely? Going through the 'grey market' as it were anyway. What's much worse is that other thread with GameStation or someone here doing it.

It's not THEIR problem as far as I can tell, it's the fact that in order to source PSPs they have to go through unofficial channels where these "sources" can charge as much as they want. That's the price you pay dealing with someone in Hong Kong.
