Glassjaw Split

Of course for anyone in the know this really doesen't come as a suprise with the event of Daryl Palumbo's edge-breaking, drug experimenting, techno-jazz (or Head-Automatica) dabbling ways over the past few years, but now it's official.

A farewell to the band that made me understand what music was really about. Passion.

I found and bought one of their cds in a second hand record shop after one of my mates was raving about them.

Pretty boring.

You're probably talking about 'Worship and Tribute', which imo was far, far below the fantastic debut that 'Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Silence' was.

The lyrics from that record are stark, beautful, haunting and poetic. The way that palumbo protrays his hurt (and illness) has yet to be bettered by any artist i've heard.

Just an opnion, obviously.

it's not true!

Hi Troops,

Over the past week or so here, we have been inundated with frustrated fan emails stating that other websites have posted, (or atleast alluded to an unconfirmed notion) that Glassjaw have broken up. We just want everyone that visits this site to know that the GlassJAw have not disbanded, and that if that were the case, you'd most likely hear it right here, directly from the guys. Here at GJ.net, we don't like jumping the gun, and posting a bru-ha-ha of gossip, just because other sites have said so. Believe it or not, this supposed break up rumor has been going on for years, (even during the transition from R.R. to Warner), and it's simply not true. If we posted that every time we heard that rumor in particular, we'd look extremely silly, as it has reared it's ugly head quite often.

We talked to Beck a bit, and he wants you kiddies to chill and relax. Yes, the GJ shows are on hold for now, due to illness and scheduling conflicts, etc, but there will definitely be a show as soon as feasible. And when we have obtained that date, for the new year, we will ofcourse let you know! When we say things are cancelled or postponed due to illness, that is what it really means. Due to contrary belief, it's not something that's said to keep the fans at bay, or stave off break up rumors. Alot has been going on lately, but Beck wants you to know that the show WILL happen. The GJ guys DO appreciate you, and your patience! They are NOT jerking you around. Here at gj.net, we try to get you the most accurate info, at the time, directly from the guys, so it might take us a little longer than the other sites, but as we've stated, we don't like jumping the gun. Needless to say, the show will go down in the new year, much to your delight, and ours!

To Beck: Banyak Bagus!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

PS, Daryl is going to be just fine. He needs some time to rest and recover so that he can take a stab at Europe in January with Head Automatica!

Happy Holidays to all of the Glassjaw and H.A. fans around the world!

If they are working on another record, I hope it's more '...silence' than 'Worship and Tribute'. The first album was a classic; the second mainly mediocre.

I disagree, both albums are completely and utterly sublime from start to finish, and the latter uses the term "whore" quite a bit less (12 on EYEWTKAS, once of the full W&T including Convectuoso) which is always nice. And yes, GJ are back, and their new sound will supposedly be based on Natural Born Farmer (a song wrote before the "split"), there's various live versions of it floating about. Excited, woo. The competition amused me greatly.

Also worth noting they aren't recording at the moment. Daryl's currently working on a final Head Automatica EP, then going into the studio with GlassJaw.

For what it's worth I thought Head Automatica were rubbish, hence my skepticism on Glassjaw's future direction.

Either way, I respectfully disagree, but then I do have a bit of a habit of being angry towards what I feel to be mediocre second/third/whatever albums... see also VAST, Machine Head, Sigur Rós, etc etc.

I thought the first Head Automatica album was great, but then I love pretty much everything Dan The Automator has ever done. That said, I thought Popaganda was disappointing repetitive forgettable shite that should never have been made.

EYEWTKAS has Piano, W&T has Ape Dos Mil (and it's utterly strange video). Those two are my favourite GlassJAw songs, so meh.
