The Greatest Game

But Curse of Monkey Island was fucking shit. It has the dubious honour of being the second-worst game in the MI series (after Escape).

Ah, someone with some good taste here. The last two Monkey Islands pale in comparison to the first ones made with Ron Gilbert.

That's because it's not trying to be 'scary', surprisingly enough.

My main point was that Deus Ex borrowed an awful lot of System Shock 2's great ideas (apart from being scary). It was also out before Deus Ex. So when I played Deus Ex it didn't match up to SS2 - I hope that clarifies things for you?

You do realise DE was the successor game from the team who made SS2, don't you? :o

Anyway, put me down for Civilisation III. That's my desert island game.

Yes I do, although it wasn't the full Looking Glass team was it? All I was saying is that when playing DE after playing SS2, there is no way that DE seemed better and, in many ways, to me it felt worse. I played both games to completion by the way.

If you're trying to be funny, it didn't work.

Those are the best games i've ever played, great titles on quite a few platforms. I've actually finished all of those titles bar Gemstone 3 (obviously) and Steel Battalion.

Super Mario 64 - Nothing has come close to how this game made me felt in terms of sheer awesomeness. I could go anywhere, do whatever I liked it was bliss with so many moves available. The jump from Mega Drive to this was massive and I played this with a big cheeky grin on my face on Christmas Day 1997. Then Goldeneye came along later and that had a similar effect. Then Ocarina as well not long after, brilliant games but none could beat Super Mario 64.

I still long for Mario 128 but it don’t seem to be coming too quick.

The thread is called the Greatest Game (no plural).

You can get away with placing a few, but I don't think anyone bothers to read your top 1000-list.

Does it really matter?

I don't have a greatest game. I have many. How any of you can believe one game is better than everything else is beyond me.
