Silent Hill 2

Well despite my bitching about the combat the movie got my juices flowing for the game I'd always loved the look and sound of but never got on with the gameplay.

Cranked the combat down to easy because I really couldn't be bothered and found myself enjoying it a lot. So much so that I finished it in two sittings clocking up a measly 6hrs worth of play. The scariest thing about this game has to be the sound design. Fookin awesome.

Anyway I've read that there are alternate endings. Anyone know a decent Silent Hill website that's likely to have them?

I've just replayed this over the weekend too. Totally love it, forgotten quite how good it is. Surprised you have to turn the difficulty down though, it's pretty damn easy on Normal. I didn't die or fail once.

I think the endings are on that game endings website that a forumite runs. Currykitten, is it? ;)

All I remember from my last attempt a while back was pressing the button to attack with the chainsaw, waiting a few seconds while James starts it up and pulls it back before moving it to the side to swing and BAM getting hit by the enemy. Repeat till death.

I thought I'd rather take in the atmosphere than get frustrated by dodgy controls and it was great.

EDIT - Thanks for the link spacehost. That's a good site, just a shame the videos aren't in alphabetical order. It's a bit messy and poorly designed.

It was sitting in the logs near the start of the level. I played through the xbox version (Restless Dreams).

Also while I'm at it, the extra scenario is rubbish and just fills in story that you've already worked out for your self. It just takes away the whole mystery. I'm guessing this is what people don't like about 3 and 4? I've seen a lot of bitching.

Yeah, fair enough. You are right that it's the atmosphere that makes it, anyway.

FWIW, there's only a very few enemies at the start you have to kill with melee attacks, then you get a gun, and so much ammo you never have to worry as long as you just run past things whilst you're outside. And there's masses of health items, too. I would recommend people play on Normal at least.

And I don't find the controls too bad for the simple reason that you can use the D-pad, and don't have to touch the Dualshock's fucking analogue sticks.

I'm still playing this. Have been for quite a while. It's slow going because I play it alone, at night, curtains drawn, headphones on, loud volume.

And because I'm a pussy and have to stop playing every hour because it cacks my pants.

But frankly, if it means a game evokes that kind of emotion, I'm glad I'm a pussy. Excellent game, stunning music.

3 and 4 are a lot less mysterious, aye; but given 4 is basically a rollicking great murder-mystery when you get into it, finding out what's going on isn't so bad.

I'm hoping number 5 dumps some poor schmuck into SH with no idea what's going on, and with a whole new hellhound on their trail for you to learn about.

I tried 4 before and remember loving the style. Anyway I started SH3 last night and it's alright. Some spooky moments like when you knock on the toilet door. That freaked the hell out of me and I almost turned the light on.

I've only played it for an hour but the emphasis seems to be on killing monsters instead of weaving an interesting story and getting you interested into the characters.

The graphics are amazing though. I was surprised.

I have had SH3 for ages. But id always start it, and never liked the first part of the game in the mall.

Anyway i watched the movie, and decided to try the game again. Its actually well good. Apart from missing the map for the mall (making me walk around for ages lost). The hospital is freaky as hell. Its just so messed up, and was quite scary (especially with nurses swinging axes at you).

Unfourtunatly i did find the game upped the difficulty at the hospital (im at a boss with no health) but thankfully i havent found any of the bosses that hard to beat so far.

The story is better in Sh2.. heck SH2 is the better game - but im really enjoying Sh3 as well.

You mention the emphasis on killing monsters.. nah.. you wanna dodge as many as you can. Most dont need to be killed. The story isnt that interesting (shame some of the voice acting sucks too) and its a bit weird.

Then again i still have one last chunk of the game to do.

I love the second game my brother had the first game which I played but never completed it though I saw him do it and I helped him out. The second is my favourite just so creppy and I enjoyed the film loads.

I do like the third one as well though never got to play the fourth after hearing negative things about it.

I must play the second one again when I have time that is.

I didn't realise that the the fourth wasn't designed as a Silent Hill game to start with interesting. That would probably explain the stupid limited inventory

If I didn't wind up filling it with used golf clubs and evil possessed dolls it wouldn't be so bad.

RE: Silent Hill 4.

Apparently Konami didnt have a SH4 game in the works, but one of their development team was creating a new "survival horror" game at the time. After the success of SH3, they wanted another game out and not have to wait a couple of years inbetween like SH2-SH3.

Anyway, the game got turned into SH4 hence why it is so different to the other games.

main problem with SH4 is once the room gets infested, you cant really go back to it (you can to visit the item box/get health before). Therefore after that, it gets really hard. I know a couple of mates who just gave up at this point.

Still, worth playing.

That's why you've got to keep on top of things, stamping out infestations the moment they appear.

So, I grabbed SH2 for the PC.

Yeah. It's raping the Mannequins, isn't it? It's raping them. Oh dear.

Ask yourself why... Then you will have the key to the game's greatness.

New PSP Silent Hill companion type-thingy...

Anyone know if this is region locked? If so, anyone know where I can get a R1 copy?
