The changes to webs and short-range warp scramblers are the most interesting parts. It's going to make a big change to how combat currently works, I think it's going to take a long time to settle down. Heavy missiles would appear to once again be win buttons.

This sound like a laugh, a mining comp for the fanfest.

This year’s fanfest PvP tournament will be a competition like no other. It will shake your perception of combat to its core, redefine the way you think about making other people explode, and force you to think long and hard about how to fit your ship.

Yes, pod pilots of New Eden, at the Eve Fanfest 2008 you will have the opportunity to experience firsthand...

That sounds utterly brilliant! Reckon it'd be cool to have another longer burning one with hastened (minutes build time and less mins) factories on the stations and everyone starts in their basic racial noob ships. Supply each team with their choice of a limited number of BPs for ships and another set of each item. The team has to build up their arsenal and balance offence, gathering and defence., kind of like an MMORTS within EVE!

I'm a happy chappie, I have finally got a km with the destroyer gang in caldri highsec. It was a total blast running around in Norv getting insulted in by the Cadari FW militia. They were getting pissed off with the losses (ok it was only about 15 kills we got but for a small group of destroyers we were happy) so they started deploying disco domis at planets.

CAIN (and some other corps) had the most amazing battle last night in Eha. Our fleet of 20 or so ships took on a massive enemy fleet of 40-50. We'd been trying to hotdrop dreads onto some Feddie capital operation (and sadly failed) and they raised this big BS/BC/cruiser blob to take us on. Our blissfully unaware CEO Ladel Teravada jumped straight into their blob. Amazingly his Damnation survived the onslaught of 25 or so ships long enough for the fleet to reach him and save his ship with remote repping.

We tore into their fleet and they jumped through all of their support; after 7 minutes of frantic primary/secondary calling, remote repping and laser/missile fire they had all been destroyed or fled. We tallied up the logs - 25 kills for 3 losses.

Henceforth people who took part will speak in awed tones of The Battle of Martoh Gate.

It seems that CCP aren't happy with the way highsec suicide ganking is going.

We have been looking at suicide ganking and overall security standing issues, and how these features affect the general landscape of EVE. We are not happy with the current ease of suicide ganking and the relative "no hassle" it has become. In many cases, unsuspecting victims have no chance to escape , nor any help from CONCORD. We want to change this.

CONCORD

CONCORD has some issues, mostly that pilots are killed long before CONCORD arrives. We have decreased the response time, meaning they will arrive quicker, and we should see a more helpful CONCORD aiding those in need.

We also changed the functionality and reduced the spawn. CONCORD now spawns in groups of 3 ships: 2 frigate sized vessels, which will lock the aggressor down in place, and a heavy hitting battleship to reduce his or her ship to metal scraps. The frigates will lock almost instantly while the battleship takes longer to lock, and the aggressor is made more aware of his or her impending doom.

Security penalties

Since the beginning of EVE, security penalties have been flat throughout every region of space (excluding 0.0). It has basically meant that the "security level" of a system means nothing, as the same penalty goes in all spaces. Although CONCORD has faster response times in the higher securities, it has not changed the fact that penalties are the same.

Through our research, we discovered that the balance between gaining standing and losing it was not in line with our intentions. It is too easy to gain back lost standing, taking only a few days to erase all the damage done by ganking. This is about to change.

We are increasing the security penalties throughout high-security space. It will be a gradual change, from 1.0 down to 0.1, where the security level of the system will dictate how much penalty you receive for illegal actions against a fellow capsuleer. This means that 1.0 will now be the safest of places, where aggressions and kills will be severely penalized and can quickly outlaw the aggressor from higher security levels. Conversely, 0.1, 0.2, and 0.3 will see a decrease in penalty, but not a big step down. This should move most ganking to the lower security areas where it belongs.

CONCORD will always frown on pod killing, thus the lowest penalty will not go below its current, which is a 12.5% standing loss. It is still possible to pod kill in high-security areas, and of course those at war or in 0.0 won't be affected.

The changes to security standings will make it harder for players to casually gank another player, and creates a challenge, so that if you are going to kill someone, you better realize the consequences.

Note that the security penalty uses the actual security rating of a system. A system listed with a 0.5 rating, for example, can actually range from 0.45 to 0.54. This means that the penalty can vary from system to system, so don't be surprised if you notice a varied security penalty in similarly rated systems.

Player vs. Player standing penalty

We will also count the standings of the two players involved; this extra variable can affect the total penalty received by a few percent. For example, if an aggressor has a high standing, and the victim negative standing, the aggressor get less of a penalty hit. This works in reverse, too. If you have low and the victim high, you will get an increased penalty.

As it currently stands, every whole point of standing difference will increase or decrease the penalty by 1%. If the aggressor has +5 and the victim -4, the overall penalty would be reduced by 9% (and increased if the other way around).

This is, of course, a major change in the landscape of EVE, but we are confident that these changes and the future plans will make EVE a better experience for everyone.

But what for the future?

We have a taskforce (Named TaskForce Doughnut!) which is dedicated to looking over these changes and proposing plans for the future. We have already started work on the above, but the future holds more changes.

In addition, the highly requested feature of removal of insurance in CONCORD related events will be implemented in the near future.

The CONCORD changes and Security penalty will be hitting TQ this fall, with Empyrean Age 1.1.

Be safe out there!

Well I finally got my covert ops up and running, great fun to fly it but I keep having to check to make sure that I'm cloaked as it feel odd warping to 50km to a gate filled with a 70+ caldari fleet sitting on the gate.

Make sure you have a MWD on there and lowslots filled with speed mods, then get yourself out to 0.0, find a big gate camp (I can recommend EC-P8R - Torrinos) and watch the show. It's a great feeling.

Just remember when you jump into a camp:

1)head off in a random direction away from the baddies by double clicking space

2)hit your cloak a fraction of a second later

3)hit your MWD

You'll cloak and get one MWD cycle - by the time an inty has reacted you'll be 20km away. I have never been killed in a covops using this method. Well, I got killed by Guristas once, but that was my own stupid fault.

Well patch day tomorrow, A massive amount of bug fixes and some nice little inclusions and apparently they have sorted out the jumpclone issue as well, I wonder who will be brave enough to do it?

Jump cloning to a clone in the same station in which you are currently docked will now be possible due an improvement in the Jump Clone mechanism. The new change means that implants will no longer be destroyed.

Remember to set a long skill as you know they do go a bit tits up once and a while.

So, last week we were wardeced by a corp who were part of MC for the second time, a couple of days later they brought a wyvern to a gate camp in old man star to spank us which we felt was a little excessive but we all took it in good humour. yesterday we put their pos in reinforcement so this morning we had a fleet ready to take them on.

We warp half out fleet to the pos to start hammering away then the second group warps in to take on the wyvern. 30 seconds later holy hell breaks free as Pandemic Legion hot drop about 30 carriers and some dreads on us. we lost 3 dreads and some other ships but were laughing all the way back to our pos. great fun.

I think they heard through the giant grapevine that is eve about the pos and decided to fuck with it. pity as we were in a good position to take it down if they hadn't turned up.

It would seem that the recruiter for sharks with frickin' laser beams is a part of Pandemic Legion.

Not spies, he is listed on their site as their main recruiter so we think they have an unconfirmed alliance with them.

They are now coming after us in groups so it would seem they didn't like the thought of losing their pos to us. :) But they wont fly alone or in a small group unless it's in old man star as they have either a carrier or MOM on at all times in case we try again. They popped me while I did a mission (yes I know I shouldn't be doing one and no I forgot to look in local as I was concentrating on not losing some drones) and there were 4 of them, Ishtar, typhoon, rapier and a domi all for little old me. :)

Congratulations to Aragorn Angelus & Co for taking sov in the 9-4 station system in Cloud Ring. Penumbra is a one corp alliance with a pretty small number of active players and they seem to have been dishing out quite a spanking to the indumbent alliance Immoral Dragons (whoever they are):
