No Half-life 2 Review Again In Gametm?

does it really (and I mean REALLY) matter?? I can understand that you may want to read gamesTM's opinion about said game, but at the end of the day I'm sure there a lot worse things that could happen.

No of course it doesn't really matter. 250,000 people died in the recent tsunami, global warming threatens to destroy our planet and George Bush just got re-elected for a second term. Those things REALLY matter.

However, this is a games forum. NOTHING really matters on here. Only in the context of a hobby which we all enjoy. Something matters if you care about it. The multiple pages of postings in this thread are testament to that.

I made the point a few pages ago which sort of went by the wayside but with one hand how can they think spending time reviewing games that they give 3 or 4 out of ten (which frankly I have not even a bean of interest in) and yet not review this game.

GM 12 (as an example):

NHL Hitz Pro 4/10

Dungeons & Dragons Heros 4/10

UFO: Aftermath 4/10

Postal: Classic & Uncut 2/10

Why waste time reviewing these, really? Why not review Half Life 2 instead? Even now its not too Late. Can cover CS: Source and HL Deathmatch whilst they're at it.

Surely a review for a bad game is just as important as one for a good game. Here we are assuming that Half Life 2 would indeed get a good review in GamesTM.

If we're already assuming that, then whats the point of a review anyway? Furthermore, if GamesTM gave the game 4 or 5 out of then, would you then be saying "Oh, you shouldn't have wasted time reviewing Half Life 2. It only got 4.".. ?

And what if some people don't read review as a buying guide? But, say, to get the perspective of someone who is supposed to be qualified in "writing game critics"?

Which is exactly how I viewed the Games tm review of Final Fantasy XI where they came up with a half arsed, token effort of a review which forgot to even mention the sub-job system, just about the most unique and important aspect to the whole flaming game!

All I know about this is what I read here, so I can't comment.

My reply was more to say that I don't care if the game is out for months, and what I want is not "bad? average? good?". I want something from a different perspective.

Many times, when I read a movie or a lp critic, I say to myself "ooh, clever, I didn't think about that aspect". That's what interests me.

Again, as far back as the archive goes - in reply to "No Half-life 2 Review Again In Gametm?"

It seems very poor manners for the publisher not to send review code to the mag' for review. I mean, even if they want to snub games™, and offer some kind of exclusive access to the game to a rival mag, they should still surely send review code to all mags prior to the game's release.

I'm sure games™ can live with not being granted the exclusive but being forced to buy the game after release if they want to review it smacks of the publisher making a comment on the magazine, who in turn are surely well within their rights to return the compliment.

It ain't strip poker. :)
