Got this today and have been suprised by its quality. Plenty of great artwork combined with insights into both HL1 & HL2's development (and briefly the mod community games). A must purchase for anyone who's a fan of the series.

Makes me want to play HL2 again even though I'm half way through about 3 other games.

Thought I'd just bring this up again, because it really is a damn good book. What's so impressive is just how many really good ideas/sketches/bits didn't make the cut. Whatever my feelings are about Steam and how mind-bogglingly annoying it was for me to run the thing, it kind of pales into insignificance really - Valve deserve all the success they get.

For £16 (or thereabouts), it's a really lovely coffee table book.

I'd also like to point out that the 'actor' who modelled for Alyx is quite foxy.

Really recommended - and depending on how 'limited' it actually is - it's probably going to be worth a bit in the years to come.

Yay.

Does it mention the fantastically the huge amount of users who have been plagued with graphic/sound issues since release?

Ive been updating drivers posting on forums, mailing valve and still cant get it sorted.

Last thing I want is to read about how bloody great it all is.

Farcry - 90% as good with 2% of the set up grief. That equals a better game in my book.

It's all down to luck IMO. Aside from the minor stuttering after a load in HL2 I've not had any problems at all with getting it to run and that includes Steam. There are some game s where I've experienced loads of bugs and some of my friends haven't had any and vice versa. For example with Far Cry I had a couple of crashes on the game as it was loading a new level, I've had numerous graphical glitches in the game such as mercenaries seeming to float in the air and so on. Still loved it though.

Although that said the stuttering thing is a big issue affecting a large portion of players.

It's not on the Waterstone's Phoenix database, but it is available from Waterstone's wholesaler, Gardners. So if you quote the ISBN (0761543643) in any Waterstone's they should be able to order it from Gardcall. I've ordered in a few copies for the Waterstone's in Belfast (anyone in Belfast who goes into Waterstone's may have noticed we've got in a few video game books recently <_< )
