and I can't pick a third one - there's too many to choose from. I could probably do a top 5, but not a top 3.

I'm currently listening to The Holy Bible for the first time ever, and it sounds fantastic so far. I thought it was meant to be a difficult album, but I'm liking it straight off. Hopefully it'll get even better with more listens, too.

Radiohead - OK Computer

What can I say about this album that hasn't been said a million times before? Absolutely nothing, that's what. An instant classic in every respect, playing host to some of the post beautifully multi-layered and memorable songs ever commited to record. One of the all-time greats

B000024TUJ.02.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

My Bloody Valentine - Loveless

A delightfully unique album, with Kevin Shields' unmistakeable (sp?) guitar sound giving classic status to an album frought with production difficulties and budget overruns. This is an album that isn't so much about a sound, as it is an atmosphere. And what a beautiful one that is.

B00004W3MS.02.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

Sigur Rós - Ágætis Byrjun

One of the most beautifully subdued and affecting albums I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. Listening to it, one is almost afraid to draw a breath, for fear that they will interrupt the beautiful sounds cascading through their ears. The music gets under your skin, and stays with you for a long, long time, never losing any of the sheer beauty ingrained in the Icelandic sounds.

In no particular order:

B00004ZF4W.02.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

Slint-Spiderland. An album that I've been lietening to on a very regular basis since it's release way back in the early nineties and I still keep on getting more out of it with each spin. Simply peerless but an obvious point of reference for scores of other decent bands (Godspeed, Mogwai, Explosions In The Sky, Mono, etc, etc, etc). Playing at, and curating, this years ATP Festival in February too.

B0000256NR.02.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

Low-Secret Name. Simply spine-tingling.

B0000019GR.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg

Rapeman-Two Nuns and a Pack Mule. Still Albini's finest hour, as he'd no doubt admit himself if pressed. This is a far more subtle record than it's sonic assault initially implies with Albini's twisted humour and piss-taking to the fore, which, when combined with a sonic assault that he's never matched before or since, courtesy of Jesus Lizard's David Wm Sims and Scrath Acid's Rey Washem leaves an indelible imprint on the listener. You may feel kind of dirty afterwards but you'll not want to wash.

Hmm, decisions.

Probably:

Hearsay by Alexander O' Neal

The Show, The After-Party, The Hotel by Jodeci

Now by Maxwell

Cool a jodeci fan i always feel a bit ashamed to be a fan of a rnb boy group.

Anyway Diary of a mad band was better album anyway and to this day is still the best example of hiphop soul

I know, it's a cliche but I'm interested in which three albums from your collection are your favourite...

(In case you're wondering, mine are Sound-dust by Stereolab, The Strange Idols Pattern and Other Short Stories by Felt and the Manics' Holy Bible.)

Hmmm. I think I should probably marry you, though in Stereolab terms, Refried Ectoplasm wins my heart, should a collection of odds and ends properly count.

Anyway, these two:

Plus one of the following (I can never really decide which):

De La Soul - 3 Feet High and Rising

As someone whose musical likings I've never discussed with before, I'd be interested to hear if you've heard De La Soul's other stuff. EVERYONE knows 3 Feet High is a classic album, regardless of genre preferance, but I think the follow-up, 'De La Soul is Dead' is every bit as good. To me, they sound the same. I think it's a real shame that, outwith hip-hop reviewers and whatnot, that it's always seen as a departure from the 3 Feet fun. To my ears, it's an extension. Please, check it out.

I'm sure you will have already, though. I'd just be interested to hear your thoughts on it.

Hey, it's a screenshot from Captain Blood on the Speccy!

edit: good to see front 242, iced earth, Whale, pixies and TMBG in your selections as well

(Nice to see there's another person on here who recognises the genius of Front 242, TMBG and Whale, btw. Especially Whale, who normally elicit the reaction "Hobo Humping Slobo Babe was rubbish Europop", which despite everything else, it wasn't. Even.)

I totally agree that DLSID is the better record, although not that they "sound the same". 3Ft sounds kinda dated and quaint now, while DLSID is totally fresh (except maybe for that Curiosity Killed The Cat tune).

You think? I've always preferred Show to the other two.

Although I would probably give my right arm for a new Jodeci album... It's never going to happen, is it? Plus I can't help feeling I'd end up a little bit disappointed, if the standard of Boyz II Men and Dru Hill's most recent albums are anything to go by. (i.e. awful.)

And as for being 'ashamed' of being a fan, I don't see why- it's still better than the vast majority of what passes for r&b these days.

Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd

Equinoxe by Jean-Michel Jarre

Tubular Bells II by Mike Oldfield

I tend to prefer pure music to songs on the whole. I sort of fall in and out of love with various songs, but I never tire of listening to this kind of stuff. I'm also a sucker for concept albums like DSotM and Hounds of Love.

Equinoxe? You no think Zoolook or Magnetic fields was better? Saying that, part 4 is really cool so....

The show is letdown by its awful skits which ruins it for me. Diary of a mad band also has some really groundbreaking production, sweaty for example is the blueprint for everything Timberland has ever produced(he does the scratching on the track)

Jodeci are supposed to be making a new album but i agree it wil be a letdown as they are too old to make the stuff they used to do and if they made a mature rnb album i doubt anyone would buy it.

God is an Astronaut - The End of the Beginning

theendof031204_04.gif

Probably the most beautiful sounding album I've heard, it's also my favourite electronica album.

God is an Astronaut - All is Violent, All is Bright

allisviolentallisbright0-04.gif

This one's more of an indie release, I can't stop listening to it atm and it's equally as good as the first album.

The Soulsavers - Tough Guys Don't Dance

203737-1082667012.gif

Really cool electronica album with a great range of sounds.

I'd have picked albums from Ash and The Prodigy a year ago but I never listen to them much any more - my taste in music has broadened a lot since then.
