Since Bungies weekly update and the 'thousands' of bans which have taken place, being online with the yanks has genuinely become an almost bearable environment. It might be fluke, but since Friday I've only played against hospitipal yanks, which is crazy since this was once a freak occurance. Maybe Bungie's announcement has scared them into be nice?

Still, in a weeks time it'll be back to normal

(and yes the N word has been frequently used against me whilst online(presumably by 'Wiggas')).

I noticed this too, but often you can hear the strain of not acting like abusive idiots in their voices.

The most unusual variant I have had so far was someone singing "I hate niggers" to some kind of country and western tune. Unfortunately I'd forgotten his gamertag when it came round to complaining, which is a pity as he needed law action for both racism AND country and western.

To be honest, I haven't heard the word nigger at all but they do use the word faggot all the time. "Go and have a cup of tea faggot." I heard an American say that to a guy that was clearly Australian. When the Aussie pointed this out, he changed it to "Go and fuck a kangaroo faggot." which must mark him out as one of the more intelligent American on Live.

It's a completely different experience in the arcade though, isn't it? Aside from there being no lag ( ) , I've yet to come across someone truly mean spirited like some of the people on Live seem to be! Trash talking is great if it's all in the name of fun, but I feel it requires more non-verbal interation to work. People that do it over Live often come off just sounding like cockbites, which is when it starts to grate.

Totally. It's really all to do with the anonymity aspect of playing online, isn't it? I mean, most people have more sense than to go up to a complete stranger in an arcade and start trash talking in their face before a match, but get them behind a TV screen in the safety of their own homes and they won't hesitate to call your mother a cunt.

just to add a little ballance, So far out of all the games I have played I have never heard that word uttered by an american, however there was a bunch of English players that were saying it whilst I was on there team, not impressed! The most anouying thing I've come across are the blatent (american) cheaters using the 'ghosting' trick.

Only had one lot of real insults and that was when I was having a particularly bad game on midship and pulled about 8 kills back by whoring the sword....

The biggest problem is the incredibly high-pitched 14 year olds of any nationality, but it just adds to the joy of killing them.....
