I bought NGC and Edge last night. The NGC was full of the same enthusiastic glee I've seen in this thread, the Edge one was a bit...robotic. I'm not saying they didn't love the game, just that you wouldn't necessarily know it from the tone of the review. I didn't agree with their complaints about the "linear" environments at all. As Kerraig pointed out earlier in the thread, this game doesn't need "go anywhere" environments. In fact, it would throw the pacing off. This isn't GTA.

Anyway, it's as expected. I know it's good that one mag at least doesn't scream "This is chuffing brilliant!" in every review, but it made for a pretty un-exciting read. The screenshots were dull too, I thought.

why, when the game clearly is? what kind of pathetic editorial policy would say we have to be different for the sake of it? it's better than the bore a thon that was Half Life 2. Maybe they know that and are paying penance. Harsh on RE though. As for criticising linear environments  my contempt knows no depths.

Well, I'm finally at the end of the game. I've been pacing myself. <_<

I have nothing to contribute to this thread that hasn't already been said, but just felt the need to express my agreement that this is an absolutely stunning game. Quite simply it's one of the most enjoyable gaming experiences I've ever had.

Well yes, I was just trying to reign myself in a bit. :P

I like they way they got out of saying it revolutionised the genre, by saying that it still had hammy writing etc. I suppose the fact that it revolutionises the controls, environment, enemies, pacing, graphical presentation etc, etc aren't as important?

It is pretty bad. Everyone knew they weren't going to give it a 10/10 because they are Edge.

They didn't really criticise the linear enviroments did they? I mena to me that's what keeps the game so fresh and perfectly paced. No getting lost or getting detracted from the story, it was like playing a perfect book.

Angel you get naff all for doing it on Pro except respect from the forum for being able to beat Krauser.

I just finished 2.3.

Love that big when the truck comes down the hill at you, just before the drawbridge to the castle. There's nowhere to go so the only remaining viable option is to take out the driver. Fantastic.

And as with all the best set pieces, it plays out slightly differently for everyone.

I panicked and sprayed the truck with TMP fire, not even paying attention to who was driving. Others zoomed in with the rifle and head-shot the driver.

Cheers Beertiger...pity. I'm still starting again on normal though and enjoying knowing whats coming up and what to buy. Genuinely the 1st game since Half-Life 2 and Metroid Prime 1 that iv started again the instant the credits have rolled. (im sure the internet can rest easy now iv shared that thought).

4 or 5 heads off with 1 powered up shotty blast last night. ridicuolous.

i havent actually played a game since beating RE4 a couple weeks ago. I dunno, its like i loved it so much no other game can compete. Well i played a few multiplayers since then, but thats it. m tempted to restart RE4 but ive been playing catchup with my 24 boxset.

Nice to see Starfox has been shipped, so that should be with me soon.

I pretty much have the same feeling. So much in fact that i started Res Evil 4 for the fourth time just because there wasn't anything else worthy. Stupid Capcom.

Good news

Resident Evil 4 sold approximately 319,000 units for GameCube in January, according to NPD data.
By comparison, the developer's remake of the original Resident Evil, which released two years ago for Nintendo's console, has garnered sales of 468,000 units in the US since. Resident Evil 0 has managed sales of 428,000 units in the US in two years. With higher first month sales, Resident Evil 4 is on track to outperform both

Resident Evil 4 hits number one!

oh, shame on you EDGE...i'm losing you.

EDGE has produced some appalingly bad screenshots over time, check the Unreal Tournament 2004 review. has anyone ever seen worse screenies ? soiled toilet paper! it's not that hard to run fraps and press F9 in a moment of inspiration.

RE 4 contains a plethora of amazing vistas and instant killer screenshots, how could EDGE not get it right?
