Resident Evil 4 (spoilers Warning!)

Scared? Too busy? Just crap?

Mainly busy. And I'm not allowed to play violent games when my daughter is around.

I confess I've had a couple of opportunities to play, on my own, late at night, as stormy winds batter at my windows. I mumble my excuses to the Gamecube, have a nice cup of tea and go to bed instead. Discretion is the better part of valour, and cowardice is the better part of discretion.

Remember: violent lunatics with chainsaws are very rare. Don't have nightmares.

wtf! it takes like 20-25 mins at most. I think.

I managed to drag the first chapter out for a week when I got the game, just playing the superb opening over again and again.

I've got a new favourite room. It's the room you start in if you load up a Chapter 5.2 end save game, just before

the bit with all the furnaces and then the knife fight.

It's a really subtle, atmospheric location, dust floating in the blue/grey sunlight which is coming through the windows. Then you take out your CT and shoot all the windows out for no reason at all. Lovely.

I'm upto 5-xx on my second playthrough, with the chicago typewriter and a semi-automatic rifle at my disposal.

I think I'm going to get 20 5-star mercenaries ratings so I can play with the handcannon on my next run through from the beginning.

Wish me luck.

Just recently started playing this and yes it's very good.

Just wanted to point out a couple of things I'd noticed.

Did anyone else think it resembled Ninja Gaiden at all? That merchant in particular had me thinking NG.

I really missed the camera angles. Although there are still some nice angles I'd like to have seen a few more steady, stable cinematic touches. One of the things I always loved about Resi was that it didn't have a camera that swung around all over the shop.

Still, almost perfect and Capcom are to be congratulated on having the balls to revolutionise Resi for the next gen. I really hope they can squeeze a Resi 5 out before these console's bite the dust. Unlikely I suppose.

The price of progress I suppose. I like using the C-stick to get moody views of Leon in various lush environments.

I added a fifth star in Mercenaries with K. in the castle section. Ada will probably be next. Getting five stars with Leon and H. will be hard as nails I think.

It's probably the hardest level out of the four. All those fucking monks with crossbows, the Prisoner running around and some small spaces where the monks attack you with their spiked shields. Bastards.

The castle stage is proving pretty hard to 5 star with Leon. I still haven't managed it yet, seems to be a fine line between running out of time with a poor score and biting off more than he can chew.

Doesn't help that his shotgun is useless against the claw guys from any direction other than the weak spot in the back.

Dreading the attempt with Mr. TMP.

Hunk's all about the neck snaps. One TMP shot to the head, then run up and 'twist'. Save grenades for crowds and for Garrados: one explosion will expose their back and then it's just a case of unloading into them.

save the barrels for the prisoners, get them in the stairwells with grenades aswell. try running straight up to the battlements and removing some xbowers aswell. just did 89000 with K without too much effort on the castle.

incidentally my gf just got champions of norrath 2 and looks, playability and mechanics it looks a very sorry affair. resi has just made all games look old (for me).

What is the 'CT'? (I know what it stands for but what does it do?

It's a Thompson machine gun, like what you'd probably end up using in a Medal of Honour game.

And it's brilliant. With unlimited ammo.

At least I assume that's what you're referring to.

Me and a friend did most of mercs in a one day session last weekend to get the handcannon, and found some things that can make it a bit easier going, including a way to do the castle without any prisoners appearing on the stage. I'll post a few such things if anyone wants.

Mercs really was great though, the time/points system works perfectly. I honestly think Capcom could have released an expanded version of Mercs as a seperate game, since as a pure action game even DMC3 doesn't come close.

I sat last night and finished Mercs mode earning all five star ranks. It really does get your blood pumping. I think it's an excellent addition to an already superb game. Leons stance in the inventory screen while wielding the HC is a nice touch.
