Resident Evil 4 (spoilers Warning!)

The Prisoners on the castle level (except for the one in the last room) only seem to appear if you kill a lot of enemies in the early areas. So the best way to do it is to run through the level collecting the time extensions and items, only maybe stopping after getting the first combo bonus if theres a fair pile of enemies to kill. When you come to the last section just outside the last room that has the prisoner in it, there's a high and low path and a barrell. Kill the archers on the low path, then run to the end and turn left and stand with your back to the corner. The archers can't hit you there, and enough enemies appear to get a very large combo going without entering the last room.

If I didn't do it like that I might not have done it at all with hunk. The last stage is also very hard with hunk and leon since they can't stun the big guys with they're weapons. By far the best way to deal with them is to get them close to a regular guy holding an explosive and shoot it. Far more effective than the barrells for some reason. You've done the village though, so you probably won't have too many problems with them.

Quick question: what's the saving method in this?

You save at typewriters, which are dotted generously about. You don't need ribbons like in the old games. It also asks you if you want to save after each chapter, which means you can save after each one and re-play your favourite bits.

It's also fairly generous with re-start points. So, if you die say in the village, it doesn't throw you back to your last typewriter save, but back to where you entered the village. Obviously that only lasts until you turn the console off.

Works really well.

No, but it's nice that you can create one, with relative ease. It even labels the saves "Chapter 2.1 End" and so on.

Good. Thanks, by the way.

God, I just can't wait to for this masterpeice. Everything about it looks amazing (bar some minor niggles ie dogs carrying shotgun shells) including all the promotional work.

Has everyone seen that superb poster which has the outline of a forest with a chainsaw weilding man all in black, against a background of red?

Superb stuff, Capcom.

That's the PAL box art. Miles better than the NTSC one.

I suppose it is weird that you shoot a crow and they leave you a hand grenade, but that's videogames, innit?

I've read so much about this, but it was the Gamesmaster review that pushed me in the stratosphere.

Looks like Halo 2 was the false messiah and this will be the runner up game of the gen.

Go Capcom! Bo!

I loved Halo 2, but my experience (shudder) with the 2nd hangar on Legendary really soured it for me.

RE4 is a different kettle of fish, but it does it's thing better than all other games in the genre. It also fits very precisely into my favoured game type - lots of exploration, scary, atmospheric environments, bit of low-level inventory fiddling, lots of satisfying shooting. So for me, it's easily the best game this gen.

Surely Cairo Station on Legendary had the opposite effect, showing you how brilliant Halo 2's combat can be? It was like that for me, at least.

No, it took me about a month just to do one bit, and after that I'd had enough. Alas, it's not as well balanced as Legendary was on the original.

Maybe I'll go back to it at some point. I've already forgotten some of the set pieces, and it is a class game.

Re. Mendes - first time I went up the ladder and shot him from up there. There are a couple of barrels about as well IIRC. 2nd time, 5 or 6 grenades in the face - dead.

Damn straight.

Does any one have the hand cannon yet. I've never even bothered getting into Mercs yet due to other games.

Does Mercs determine what your final weapons were in the game before deciding what you get by default? For example I have the riot gun, which I had in the game, or do you get that no matter what?
