I never thought about using the infra-red scope in the earlier stages. I just sold it at the last merchant before the final boss. I'm gonna have to do some infra-sightseeing next time though!

I finished the game without finding the infra-red scope? Could you buy it from the merchant?

hes hard as hell at 1st but 2nd run thro he only hit me once (and i was using standard guns)

grenade him, shotty himto the head...run to the opposite end and repeat. then sniper his 2nd form to shit.

yay done it now.... i'm in the castle... ooooooooooo they have hoods and shit!

He might have picked it up but not equiped it to the gun.

The mike helicopter bit is the best bit in the game ever!

totally agree

when you complete the section and you run up the hill, you suddenly get surrounded and teh helicopter appears and does the business

its the best movie clip in a game i've ever seen

but HOW did you miss it? You had to find it to trigger the next bit of the story!

I missed it as well the first time through - my mate was round when I was coming up to the final boss, and he asked me where my infra red scope was. I hadn't been able to find it, so I just went on without it.

And yes, it was tough! :(

The scene works perfectly because for the first time in the game you dont feel totally alone. Sure you had ashley but she was more of an annoyance than a help, because she could never back you up and you had to constantly watch her.

It really felt like help had finally arrived, after all this talk of help arriving soon and then lossing hanagan. But it was so cinematic, the way he helped you out, i half expected him to just fly around and probably get shot down within the first 5 seconds, but he really helps you through an area which without him you'd wonder how to do it. It was just the perfect action film set piece.

OK so I'm getting into the mercenaries for the first time properly, now I've got all the characters.

Just had an hours session where I managed to do all four stages getting a 5 star ranking on each with Krauser. He's my favourite charcter. That bow... and that arm...!

Brilliant!

But now for the rest of the characters :D I've only ever managed a 4 star highest with any of them...

But before today a 4 star was the highest I'd got.

This handcannon better be worth it:P

I loved the initial cinematic with Mike but wished he'd have buggered off after that and left me to take out the villagers. By that time I was tooled up to nines and almost every time I got ready to off the villager scum he turned up and blew the lot of them away.

The only part of the game where I felt I had no real influence but that's really the smallest of niggles.

Just finished Project Ada. More of the same... but good fun. Trashed the boss with the TMP which actually seems useful in some situations. It's also great for spraying around like a madfool, have that you zombie fuckers!

Mercenaries mode or a 2nd playthrough. Hmm, Mercs sounds pretty solid, gonna give it a look before I start the 2nd playthrough. Really looking forward to playing through the game again, looking forward to seeing what the merchant has to offer :)

Try it on Pro mode. He doesn't help that much.

Hmm I've finally got round to playing this and well the graphics look pretty average even poor in places, now I'm literally right at the beginning but the trees (they sort of flicker a bit), the gun Leon holds, and most of the textures and stuff look pretty crap (the actual characters look great though...). ;)

I'm using a US cube, an s-video cable and a relatively new tv, is one of them not working right or is it just my eyes?

hmm. well prog scan makes it look truly incredible, but i still rate it highly on my plain old uk rgb + us version +freeloader + 29' sony.

i dont rate svideo as a picture at all but it should still look good. i guess you'v been swayed by all the 'best thing ever' opinions and expected too much.

but i still think its the best looking game of this (console) gen.

Finished Resi yesterday, just shy of 34 hours. What a brilliant game,

But it just finished, no final payoff just a quick dash towards Resi 5.

I hope I don't have to wait another five years to continue this storyline.

Still got Ada, Mercenaries and Professional to tide me over I suppose.

Playing this made me wish that MGS 3 had been made on the GC from the ground up. It really, really needed that Resi camera. In fact the most gorgeous parts of MGS 3 were from a similair viewpoint, going through that swamp with all hell breaking loose.
