I'd imagine MA3LSTROM and RAIDER13i from Pro G might also want to have a bash, though they aren't on here so TooStonedToPlay (gaz on here) would have to regulate fixtures for them... even though he wouldnt have a partner for the tourney himself. Oh well, he's not big on small party slayer games anyway.

Also, I'm hoping for 32 teams - in the event that we have too many, I will most likely be throwing everyone who registers after the 28th team into a qualification pool for the 4 final slots. If the demand is WAY higher than 32 then I'll find another solution, and if its like 30 teams then I'll sort out best 3rd place to go through to the knockouts.

Seeding is a good idea, ascention should stay on, but im all up for snipers being taken out in a 2v2 situation.

an idea might be that if everyone plays a few maps in the group stages, then others in the knock outs.. or, if people are stronger on certain maps, then they dont play those maps they are strongest on in the knockouts..

i.e.

team1 is strongest on ascention

team 2 is strongest on midship

then they play thier knockout games on say collosus, meaning the teams are on a level playing field.

No you won't, aside from having 2 tv's side by side, it shouldn't be a disadvantage seeing the other persons screen could be a pretty valauble thing.

I haven't decided yet - but the 2 options are: random level selection throughout or specific level selection throughout, so that no map gets repeated (except say for the final or whatever). That way, all the teams in the group stage play the same 3 maps once, then everyone in the next round plays on one map, etc etc. I could do it so that everyone votes for the "Final" level. Woo.

I could do a form of seeding, but it won't be accurate. I'm sure there won't be any complaints/arguments when all the teams are grouped (HAHA right). There is no way I could possibly know/process 32 teams all shouting about what their favourite maps are - and thats assuming everyone is 100% honest. If you are a good player, you'll play well over all of them.

Having tested this out last night, we found out two things.

One: Battle Rifle starts are absolutely necessary or you end up with stalemate situations far too often. This is looking uber likely to happen so maybe get some practice in? Remember how important that makes the Plasma Pistol.

Two: 10 minutes is about enough for 25 kills. Hence, 50 kills would take about 20 minutes.

The best map for it seemed to be Ivory Tower. Lockout and Midship were alright, Ascension and Beaver Creek could see one side really dominate.

Just some random observations. One thing's for sure, 2vs2 really shows the difference between a good team and a bad team. If you're getting raped, it really hurts and it's far harder to bring it back than it is with 4vs4. Maybe that's just the level of play we're at and it won't seem that way in a bigger pool, I dunno. But be prepared for hideous defeat at the hands of the ninjas.

Hi all, I think it would be cool to do a 2 on 2 tournament. Forget the hassles of splitting up your beloved clans and the heartache of a locked room with 4 of your best buddies in - now you can argue about who goes with who instead! It'll be just like back in school, "everyone get into pairs!" Also - I think that specific practice will be a lot less of an issue, as the only objective is to KILL.

Right, now any suggestions to any of the above will be welcomed/ignored, depending on whether it is any good or not. Ideally we will get 16 pairs and play group stages, so everyone gets at least 3 games. If there is a massive demand, we can easily accomodate it, BUT! I'd rather have 16 pairs well up for playing, than 32 teams with a bunch of people who are gonna drop out at the first (or second) loss.

After the group stages, it will move into a knockout phase.

I think in this case that playing 2 games a week should be fine. They'll only take 15/20 minutes each. It also means that the tournament won't drag on over a long time, hopefully eliminating the chances of changes of heart and tales of woe and lack of enjoyment.

SO! If you do have a pair sorted, then great, and if not, but you are interested, then post here and find a partner. Perhaps include a link to your Bungie stats, even a brief description of your skills/style of play. As for group stages, I suppose it would be cool to have some sort of seeding going on, but fuck knows how that would work. Also - would you want team names?

The proposed start date for this tournament is Monday 21st February, but of course it can be changed depending on how much/little interest there is.

What says you?

As an aside, I think that a Head to Head league would be badass, so save that for another thread.
