Nice compositions on the last two, Remy. I'd make the black building(?) fill in the space next to his left shin, you'd get a cleaner 'C' shaped comp imo.

That must have taken an age, matt0! keep the pixel art coming.

Thanks for the support, Dude Ranch.

Is your 'speedie' monochrome monsterrobondestroytown pic done in photoshop still? Custom brushes? I still wish I could do this painterly thing ;x

Yep Potatoshop <_<! Custom brushes and layer overlays. Your work is very painterly, not sure what you're going on about! Have you tried Corel Painter, minkee?

Grah, do you really think so? I don't think it is at all! I've tried corel painter a few times, and I just can't get on with it. I think i'm too set in my adobe ways to learn a new piece of software like that. I should probably try harder, but if I could do it in photoshop that would be best. I just feel like whenever I try it, I come out with the digital equivalent of when your paint and painting all goes brown when you're 5 years old and splodging everything together too much. I think it's a struggle to get any definition and depth. I don't know why, though, if I did maybe I could fix it!

Also, matt0, it's very refreshing to have a bit of pixel art in here to mix things up a bit, keep it up ;D

Are you guys not going to do your own take on the Writer's Corner word then?

I wish I could draw, I do doodle alot but always end up looking at my stuff and thinking... yuck.

Anyway, I try to paint pictures with words, I find I am better at that. But would LOVE to see some of you highly talented chaps have a stab at the word of the month. It could serve as inspiration for both sides of the fence (and all those sitting in the middle) to see a picture that makes you think of a story or to read a story that makes you think of a picture...

I can remember paintings going all brown and messy .

Is it a problem with colouring digitally? what are you aiming for? by "definition and depth" do you mean you want a more 'solid' style to your pieces, more realistic lighting and shading? Not sure if it's what you're looking for but this helped me a lot (great read regardless): http://www.anticz.com/drawing1.htm

I'd be very interested to here about the process of making such an image, like what software you use and techniques etc. It looks brilliant.

Thanks!

It's just photoshop with the pencil and fill tools and any aliasing/blending turned off, I used photoshop because I can use layers to back up work and flick back to old versions to see if I'm heading in the right direction, you could do the same picture in MS-Paint but it would be a bit more awkward. I draw a rough outline and blocks of colour freehand with the mouse (which took about half an hour for this one), then zoom right in and tidy up the shape of it, add the outlines, sort out the contour shades, do the textures on the leaves etc, which is all done pixel by pixel (which took about 10-15 hours... :( ).

I will start a thread to go with next months theme, if no one else does, I guess. Shame we can't just literally hijack yours ;P

I wouldn't complain, a joint illustration and writer's corner thread would be, imo, great.

That's lovely, although that's surely a vector illustration. Do you usually rough things first in pshop? I'd love to see a version with the rougher edges and the type done by hand - that would look cool. I tend to like things that look a little unfinished.

The first one I posted was a rough version drawn with a tablet in Photoshop, the second one was vectored in Illustrator afterwards. I've been roughing stuff out in Photoshop lately but always start the idea on paper.

This thread/page continues to inspire awe.. nice work all involved.

Ditto.

Just started to learn illustrator* properly and this thread does nothing but inspire.

*Which is actually really fun - should have learnt how to use it before I finished my graphic design degree... <_<

I'll tell you what's fun about Illustrator - the sometimes-seen rainbow gradient bug. Ooooh, I loves that one. <_<
