This is good, but coming from someone who does this pixel stuff for a living the different size pixels really bother me, is that something you were going for ?

At first I was trying to be really strict with it and the different sizes really bothered me too, but eventually I couldn't be bothered to rework it anymore and decided to embrace the irregularity. I just tell myself the big pixels are made out of small ones, which I suppose they are in a way.

I'll do Parker at some point so I might try two versions, one with uniformly sized pixels and one without. I don't really know how to do pixel art and I'm not adept enough to work within its constraints and still produce something I like so I'm just messing around really.

It's bad pixel art basically. Although I prefer the term 'post pixel art.'

And amazing stuff as always!

I remember reading something a year or two back about some pixel artist figuring out a way to configure a series of layers to emulate a pixelart-style outcome while using a full range of 64-bit tools, if you follow. So you could 'paint' the pixel art with all the usual photoshoppy brushes and tools rather than be limited to something closer to MS paint.

I'll see if I can find the link.

edit:

Found - http://danfessler.com/blog/hd-index-painting-in-photoshop

Not sure it'd be of any benefit to your style though. Seems more useful for the painterly backdrops and such you often see in indie games atm.

Massive props to the Melon man as always, but personally I quite like the different sizes in the Alien pics. Doesn't bother me a bit imo. I sort of see it as pixel art but also sort of not at the same time. Love the gamers pic that said :) So many cool easter eggs.

On a different subject:

Drew a thing on a train. A robot hoping to exceed his mandate, what he is told to stick to, entranced by all of the possibilities contained by a rainbow in a raindrop.

LONG story but am taking the students (hopefully - my college seems to be in the way of everything I plan at the moment) to exhibit their artwork at one of Europe's largest open air art shows in June. On a whim I entered a pic into the competition to be the cover image of the show and it's now in the final 6. Three days to go (closes Thurs) and only at number 3 at the moment it needs a moment of FORUM MAGIC(tm) to push me over the final hurdle. We'll see. I ain't no Kerraig (hence me even begging for votes - he'd have it sewn up and be drinking champers by now - but at the same point am hopefully not Brucie either).

Anyhow votes is up at bit.ly/feedmyrobot if you'd be so kind...

Yup... But every time I post it into this thread it refuses to connect. Oddness...

bit.ly/feedmyrobot would take you there/ facebook.com/artstylemagazine works as well (hopefully)...

(Tis odd though, every time I reply on Surface and iPhone it says refuses to connect)

I, er....I bit the bullet and got myself a Cintiq.

I've only really had 5 minutes on it atm but, basically.....well, I think I may be in love.

The best compliment I can pay it is that it feels EXACTLY like my old intuos3, but with a screen. Feels very close to paper sketching in fact, and with a bit of farting around with brushes, textures canvases and masks, looks a lot like it too.

I've got all next week off work so I'm hoping to put it to good use. I've still got a bit of configuring to do to get everything set up like it was on my old dead laptop, and I've just had a massive spring clean to give myself an almost acceptable workspace in the corner of the house, so that's a start. Feels good man.

If there's one thing I never regret purchasing, and that is my used Cintiq. I mainly use the Cintiq for sketching, linework and still use the Intuos 3 tablet for all of my painting chores.
