Doctor Who

Smith is probably still my favourite of the new Doctors, but I think Capaldi has been great. He took a little time to settle into it in Season 8 but he has had some great episodes, particularly in Season 9. If he was cack in all the other episodes and still did Heaven Sent, he'd still be great. The curmudgeon thing was worth it just for the prompt card gag.

Season 5 was by far the best arc. Just the right balance and they acknowledged it mid season. Though I really think the season just past ran it very close. There aren't any stand out stinkers, which is unusual for Who.

I don't think any series has a great arc to be honest. Some of them have been interesting (series 5 probably most of all) but they've never quite managed to tie things up satisfactorily in the finale.

I still think that instead of writing Bad Wolf everywhere Magic Tardis Rose should've just written "hey try getting a truck and busting open the control panel maybe xx"

Not sure how the Time Lords managed to lose the Time War when all it takes to obliterate a massive Dalek fleet is to pry a floorboard off a Tardis for a bit. Then we also found out they can use regeneration energy, like Iron Man doing a super in Marvel vs Capcom, when they get injured.

Quick question about regenerations, the Doctor is like 900 years old right? He's on his 12th regeneration? These have all happened in the last 50 years, so what happened for the first 850 years? Was he very careful or just got more reckless in the last few decades?

I sat opposite Sophie Aldred on the train last month. I've encountered a few actors in London and try not to bother them (they're people like us & have a right to privacy), but it was difficult to be nonchalant when she started talking about her lips when giving make-up tips to a friend. Swoon!

In other news, Doctor Puppet has gone multi-doctor

Rachel Talalay has done some blog posts about the making of Heaven Sent:

I know that TV filming is fast, but this comment makes clear just how little time she had to discuss the script with Capaldi before they began shooting:

This is just one illustration of our discussions, all taking place on set while shooting at TV pace. One of the  hard parts about TV is that there isn’t ever enough time. Peter and I talked about the script just once before we started shooting, when I managed to nab him during a short break while he was filming episode 10. He had only read the script once, having just received it and being in the middle of another episode. I managed to give him an overview of my approach and discuss the question of how to play Clara’s death without chest-beating. All I really had time for, before he was called back to set, was to lay the most cursory groundwork.

Moffat calls it akin to a "British Buffy" in the article. That's encouraging and worrying at the same time.

Yep, it's not always clever to compare your series to a cult classic, you are only setting yourself up for a fall. If it is that kind of show, other people will make the comparison for you when it airs

Moffat's quote that it will be "dark and sexy and right now" caused a lot of hilarity on Twitter.

I kind of want it to be good but also find I don't really care about it because, y'know, Torchwood.

Really appreciate this. Heaven Sent is the best Doctor Who episode in years imo.
