I honestly thought that it was excellent tonight.

The plot/acting was in danger of running into a brick wall at points, but recovered just in time. I too thought the tone was perfect, Gwen and Rhys's argument was really well done on the most part. Also, Ianto was still likeable!

'We could release a single...' :D

"This is really homo-erotic"

Yeah, good line. <_<

There is a much lighter touch used with the more serious scenes this time around. They just keep dropping in humourous lines every now and again to keep things ticking over so you don't take it all too seriously.. which it would be daft to do, to be honest. It's the maddest show on earth. But it's working very well this series.

I thought that the meatwhale was going to turn out to be a prior version of the Face of Boe at one point and got really nerdishly excited, then was deflated throughout the rest of the episode. To be honest I didn't really see why Torchwood thought what was going on was a bad thing in any way; a replenishing source of meat that doesn't die and appears to have no ill-effects seems far more ethical than a pig farm is, to my mind.

Are you serious? Slaughter a pig, and it's dead with next to no suffering. Hack into the side of an alien whale day in, day out, leaving it in constant pain while tied to dry land on the other hand...

I think that keeping one intelligent animal in a painful situation in order to feed people is more ethical than doing the same to several for shorter time periods, yes. Most of the time when a pig's being reared it's not being slaughtered, after all, and this is the pertient point to me. We should probably annexe this to the cheap chicken thread before this massively derails.

I know shows like this require a huge leap of faith at times with regards the stories. But hasn't nearly every woman who has been in it fancied Owen at some point? I mean come on! If they had the idea to have some guy who was a bit of a lothario, don't pick one of the ugliest guys on the face of the planet.

He reminds me of this guy at times with his complexion and weird mouth:

When I was watching it, I felt there should probably have been more of a gap between her story last week and then trying to get into The Rifts pants the very next episode.

I just gave Torchwood one more go because I saw so many nice comments about 'Meat' when reading this thread. I still can't quite get my head around how bad it was. Didn't quite make it to the end, the woman's tirade was the last straw. Reminded me a little of that Welsh UFO horror but that had a bit of charm.

Ace.

EDIT: Gah, I'm rubbish at irritating answers. Clearly most people here think it's good, so it sucks to be you I guess.

Pretty much the same here. I've tried really really hard with it and in theory it's the sort of show I'd normally quite enjoy. But it's just rubbish. I won't be watching it again.

Why? I've made my criticisms of it clear in the past, and they've all been valid. It's not like I'm being controversial or something. I really do think it's pretty woeful.

Been watching through Series One while on the ol' exercise bike this week. The whole thing improves everytime I watch it. Cyberwoman is fucking terrible, but everything else (I' just finished Countrycide) is pretty top notch. Small Worlds and Ghost Machine are especially good.

Yeah, I thought the same. Greeks Bearing Gifts is also rubbish though, but the rest are all rather good. I do prefer the direction series 2 is taking though.
