I fell asleep about 15 minutes in and woke up just as

bloke from the good life died

and realised I hadn't missed anything.

it was the usual Russel T Davis budget episode that gives other actors a break and allows them to keep the SFX budget for the finale.

I thought the BBC 3 Ep was ok. I liked what they did with the character . Although I though from the promo that it would be a lot better and darker

I thought that they where building Owen into a darker character, I thought from the promo that Owen was going to leave the team and slowly turn into a villain... Because he’s dead he would lose a sense of right and wrong. Like the Laura’s character in the Book American Gods. I thought that would be great, Owen has a sometimes villain, sometimes hero. Owen becoming more and more degraded as the series went on and resenting Jack for making him the way he is. That would be much better. IMO

I'm not sure it was a good idea to have several episodes essentially covering the same thematic ground as they keep killing Susie from series 1, but in a less exciting and fast-paced way.

To buck the opinion of the entire forum, I don't think series 2 of the 'Wood is better than series 1. Some of the writing is stronger, but the entire world of the show seems much, much duller to me.

I'm really loving the Tom Baker re-reuns on UK drama or whatever it's called. 33 years on and there's some fantastic stuff in there. I hope the broadcast all the Baker stuff. Yes, I understand this may not be possible for the Dalek stuff which is a bloody shame.

I'll be just like last time on UK Gold I expect, although the skipped over a huge chunk of The Key To Time IIRC.

It is great though. I wake up Sunday morning with a whole series to watch. Mind I recorded almost all of them onto DVD last time so missing very few.

Watching The Seeds of Doom right now. It's bloomin' marvellous. :D

Another of my faves. Such a wonderful bad guy in the shape of Tony Beckley's Harrison Chase.

"I MUST see what happens when the Krynoid touches human flesh!"

Plus the Krinoid is a fantastic monster. The idea of people being transformed and losing their humanity is an oft used but nontheless extremely powerful and disturbing fear.

That BBC3 episode was half terrible, half hilarious.

I was so disappointed when the chainsaw died. And the retcon ending was shite. I was wondering how they would get around it, but was hoping it wouldn't come to that.

BBC3 episode (which pretty Ok, being nice mix of good moments and complete hilarity)

Are they trying to make Jack/Gwen as unlikeable as possible? Both of them are behaving like self little bitches, and completly abusing Ianto and Rhys.

I want a Rhys of my own! He's so lovely!

The BBC3 episode was utterly retarded, and yet amazing at the same time. :(

Reese suddenly turning into a crazy chainsaw guy was the stuff of legend, and the monsters were straight out of a cheesy B-movie. Even so, it still managed to pack in some decent character development.

Watched both eps last night..

Day in the Death

Felt slightly forced with the whole suicide thing, but not bad

Something Borrowed

Ugh, if Dead Man Walking hadn't already happened, this would have won the Most Cliched award... still, had its moments, particularly the Evil Dead line. They HAD to retcon them at the end though, no other way out.

This second series of Torchwood has settled into the same routine as the first, now, for me. The first few episodes led me to hope that it would be a big improvement (especially the first episode, which was gloriously camp and tongue-in-cheek and seemed to indicate a new confidence to the show), but now it's much the same as before. Some pretty daft episodes, one or two stinkers, plenty of inconsistent characterisation and some huge plot holes. It's still fun, but it's nowhere near as good as I'd hoped it would be.

It needs a steadier controlling hand, I think - the mood and tone of the show is all over the place from week to week. The episode with the big whale thing in the warehouse had some brilliant dialogue and managed to be fun and dramatic at the same time, but other episodes have completely lacked that spark between the main characters that helps to lift the show. It's too obvious that there are lots of different writers on the show, and not enough is being done to give it a coherent tone.

I'd say it needs more script editing, and script polishing. I don't know if they use script polishers at the BBC at all, or even if they already do on Torchwood. But last night's BBC3 episode had a very workmanlike script in places, and it really could have benefited from a skilled character writer's input.

Also, the show needs more input by RTD. His episode had one of the strongest scripts by far, in my opinion (and I'd guess he had a hand in another of them, where you can hear his voice coming through and one of the writers appears not to exist). I think he's very good at fleshing out the concept and boundries of a show, which Torchwood could really do with. I'd take another Russell episode of Torchwood over another of his EXCITING FINALE EVENTS on DW any day.

I disagree with which episodes of this series were good, though. I thought both of the ones you mention were very not good, especially the first episode which was frankly among the worst episodes of any drama I'd ever seen.

I'm guessing that the fat bloke who was brutally murdered and eaten by the alien was pretty low on the guest list. No-one seemed too upset about his not being there in any case. Still, the retcon will make it all better, eh?

It's only an ugly fat bloke.
