Why Kaiser Chiefs Are S***

I have to say that I quite like the Kaiser Chiefs album. However, I'm finding it's getting far too much airplay at the moment.

My general opinion is that if music by pretty much any UK band can keep the dire crap from the US out of UK TV and radio play lists, then it gets my vote.

I've had enough of shite gangsta rap where some guy waves his hands around whilst carrying half a tonne of bling around his neck, or these mountains and mountains of R&B releases.

they know how to knock out a good tune, and most of the album is quite enjoyable. but its all too catchy, too novelty, too tongue in cheek to really like. imitating britpop isn't really on, given it was a movement with nothing original going for itself in the first place.

I'd rather have a good R&B single keeping the mountain of sub Coldplay dross and 10 years to late Brit Pop crowd off the charts

When I think of these bands I can't help but compare them to westlife or the like. Just now it is hip to be scruffy and record companies can't get away with such obvious manufacturing as before. But these bands are still manufactured - plucked from nowhere, and styled up to make some cash. Given more time to develop on their own and not thrust onto the radio so early in their careers they might have become more than throwaway.

Kaiser Chiefs, not as bad as the Bravery at least.

The media are competing to discover the next big thing first which doesn't help.

The White Stripes managed to slip under most peoples radar until their third album and started to get huge with their fourth and I think they are all the better for it.

which one is surnamed 'hodgson'? i was around his house (or should i say 'mini mansion' ?) the other day... the house had been hit by lightning and his b&o tv and cd player had blown up, as well as a few other products and there's a large hole in the roof.

anyway, his dad's kinda creepy and kept inserting "my son's in kaiser cheifs" into every other sentence. he also kept playing their new single constantly and dancing like only a father can.

it's a pity he never asked me what i thought of the band... :D

Slightly OT, but I can't believe how bad the NME is now.

Kaisers/Franz/Doherty are on the front of every other issue. Always with a "Why they are the most important/rocking/vital/lifechanging band in the world right now!"

but this week:

"Ian Brown: The reason why we need him now more than ever"

FUCK OFF. FUCK OFF AND DIE.

"but isn't that true?"

I really like the Kaiser Chiefs album, purely because of the very reasons that people here seem to be hating it, I like how catchy it is and how the songs almost drill you in the head with their britpop vibrancy.

Sure they're doing what several other bands are doing at the moment but they're the ones with the confidence to go all the way with it and shove it in your face, I say it'll stand the test of time because when the(admittedly over saturated) airplay dies down and the NME soundalikes get bored/disbanded poeple will actually be able to listen to it properly.

But yes, go download Disposablemedia when it comes out!

Bought the NME for the first time in over 15 years at the weekend and couldnt belive how appaling it had become.Dont want to sound like an old fogey but where was the incisive reviews and passion about music?

All I saw was a Smash Hits for indie kids.It even had 'funny' captions with the photos that would seem out of place in a pre-teen mag.

Shocking..

And the Kaiser Chiefs cannot use 'I tell thee' in a song and possibly hope to get away with it..can they?

With a desire to get back into music a few months back and after thinking 'I predict a riot' was pop genius I bought the album...

What a piece of poo. The album has 2 singles on which are good solid pop songs and has the, still, genius that is 'i predict a riot'.

However the rest is pure toss. After being out of the music scene for so long I cried into my beastie boys albums and decided that I need to invest more time into my music or in 5 years time I'll be buying the latest chart topping act and not realising it's shit.

Thankfully I got a few albums from the MVC sale that have changed all this is no time:

Zoot Woman - Zoot Woman

Cassius - 1999
