Dance/trance.

It is indeed nasty. Run by a crook, populated by underage girls, garish, on a horrible street where it's more usual to get into a fight than not, creepy... ugh.

A friend also died of a heart attack there, and everybody just carried on dancing. Not my scene at all I'm afraid.

I used to be massively into progressive house and trance 7-10 years ago.

I then got into more deep/funky/cut-up stuff, but I still like some of the darker stuff around today.

It all started going wrong after Insomnia, Encore Une Fois and Seven Days & One Week IMHO. But then I'm 30 next year so take that with a pinch of salt :)

Anyway stuff I like..

Age of Love - Age of Love (Watch of for Stella mix)

Mr Fingers - Can you feel it

Blue Amazon - No Other Love (plus loads of their other stuff)

Humate - Love Stimulation (original or PVD mixes)

Gat Decor - Passion

Mrs Wood - Joanna

BT - Embracing the Sunshine & first album & Godspeed etc

Thomas P Heckman - Super Vixen

Slam - Positive Education

Rhyme Time Productions You & Me (Hard Mix)

Gypsy - I Trance You

Leftfield - Not Forgotten & Leftism

Vinyl Blair The Trancespotter

Disco Evangelists De Niro (Full Circle Mix)

Taiko Echo Drop (Hard)

Rejuvination - Requiem Part 1

Underworld - Rez

Hardfloor Mahogany Roots (Work Remix)

Slacker - Feel Space & other singles

Yum Yum 3 Minute Warning

Photon Inc - Give a little Love (DJ Pierre Wild Pitch Mix)

Nush - Nush

Robert Miles - Children (way over played, but at the time - wicked!)

Moby - Go (Woodtick mix)

Quench - Dreams

The Grid - Figure of Eight

There's probably loads more, but without looking at my tunes it's all I can remember.

What's the tune that sounds like Love Stimulation, but has African chanting in it as well?

just been listening to a bit of PVD while down the gym actually :)

still love my trance. and my house & my tech. just depends on my mood.

trance gets a lot of unfair stick i think for being mindless. its an easy target. for me its a type of music i can get lost in (like, durrr!), or on the other hand, really concentrate to (like when working).

personal faves are ferry corsten, above & beyond & of course pvd. not a fan of burren or tiesto these days. there a bit to 'light' for me.

there are SO many good sets floating round the web these days...

I just discovered D&B too, shame that the scene is dead in the Netherlands.

No it ain't!! I played a great party in Eindhoven (The Red Zone) a few weeks ago, and there's regular gigs in Amsterdam too. Look out for Deejay Pan and Pressure, two excellent DJs over there...

Wow, that's very good to hear! :)

Just felt like it was dead to me, as even the indies didn't sell any D&B records or vinyl anymore. Got any good recommendations? I'm pretty new to D&B, but I love Return to V from Roni size and some livesets from Ed rush & Optical.

I tend to play a bit more breaks oriented stuff, Paradox, Seba, that kind of stuff. You could do worse than check out the label in my sig, most of what we do is a good blend between Dancefloor and more old skool sounds. As a random recommendation you could try this Bingo Mix:

http://www.breakbeat.co.uk/polls/poll.asp?pollID=10

or this offshore mix:

http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/record-revie...ed-waters.shtml

The reviews a bit over the top, but it's a good mix!!

Inspired by this very thread, I have just put this on:

How am I going to be able to work with my hands in the air!?

Yay! One of my fave mixes ever that one, never far from the CD player.

If you're after a bit of a sonic journey, you could do lot worse than this...

Old now, but still sounds totally fresh.

Also, Paul Oakenfold's Goa and Tranceport mixes are completely lovely.

Tiesto is cool! Mylo is pretty good, too. been listening to his album a few times lately.

Scooter? Er....!

Actually there are a couple of Scooter tracks that I like, but they have done some terribly annoying tunes, too!

I like the annoying ones. Listening to the liveset off 'Mind The Gap' right now. I'm kinda new to this type of music. But I really like the cheesey stuff like Scooter - what else would I like?

if you're searching on some p2p type thing have a look for dj mystik. he was a californian dj who did loads of mixes of super cheesy trance tunes. theres another dj mystik from belgium, who is someone completely different. but really, if you search for dj mystik, its gonna be the first guy that you see lots of.

and search for trance mixes of 80s songs, thats always a guaranteed way to find some cheese

Without a doubt one of the best mixes ever, takes me back to the good old days  . I also love dance and I think Lost Witness' Happiness Happening is THE best CHOOOON ever, always have to listen to that to get me into the mood for clubbing.

On a side note, I'm off to see The Faithless live tomorrow night and it's gonna kick major arse :( .

Cool. That reminded me, Lange did quite a few cool mixes in those days!
