I've just had to switch this off for a bit, feeling a bit fragile at the minute and its at a bit were its a bit tight.

I have always been a complete chlaustrophobe and I think its frightened me more than any horror scene (even though its not a horror scene :( )

Ill have to go back and get to the end.

I hate tight spaces.

EDIT Watched it all and not bad , the tight spaces bieng the only frightner for me though.

I'm not claustraphobic but the way the scene where whats-her-face gets stuck in the tunnel was handled made me feel very uncomfortable. One of the highlights of the movie for me.

...

I can't believe how much of a pussy I am though. First time I watched this was on a pirated DVD (really wish I'd seen it in the cinema now... will be getting the proper version when it comes out) with two mates. I think I actually shouted out loud about 3 times... :(

Watched the creeper last night which has a similar sort of theme but is a load of shite.

Saw this on the plane back from Cuba, I thought it was pretty good really, and scary enough (my girlfriend was shitting herself).

I found it a bit confusing though, as 3 of the women looked far to similar, especially in the dark in the caves, and especially on the crummy little screen on the back of a seat on an aeroplane.

Something I just noticed watching this again:

When Juno and Sarah are following the markings and come to the cavern where they fight three or four crawlers at once, aren't the crawlers guarding an entrance/exit to the entire cave system? I swear you can see daylight through a hole above them.

If so, it casts new light (arf) on the possibilities of the ending.

This was a brilliant film until the stupid demon things were introduced.

I loved all the small tight dark place scaryness, and just the harshness of the whole cave adventure, after the demons came it just turned into a quite poor monster film with lots of gore (The gore was good) but it sadly lost any scary factor after it become a strange action film.

9/10 for the first half, 5/10 the second.

They're not demons. They're PEOPLE. Ish.

Well they freaked us out. Especially the first time they attack, when one is just standing there, looking over her shoulder.

I liked the fact that they were non CGI, and I also enjoyed the slight Nosferatu look to their design. Horrible things.

I was disappointed to be honest, I mean we all know it should have Ichtar and the rest of the real cave monsters(silurians) :)

Atavistic horror for the win.

Oh yeah, complete with visible zips and human wrists showing through the costume.

I dunno, I thought they were creepy as fuck. What better film monsters have their been in the interim between Alien and this? Pitch Black? Pffft. I can't think of any decent monsters in recent years.

It was their use throughout the film I object to. If you read the first post in this thread I nearly fell off my chair in delight at that trailer, the monsters were the icing on the cake. The sneaky glimpses of them also worked a treat. Just like the Alien you referred to. Unfortunately, I don't remember the Alien getting its arse kicked quite so easily by that particular woman. "If it bleeds, we can kill it." Dealt with brilliantly in the case of Ridley's Alien, but with an hour gone served only to show just how weak these monsters were, and therefore ceased to be scary to me.

But they're scary because of their sheer numbers, not because individually they have superhuman strength or something. I find the idea of being surrounded by twenty fucked-up albino cave men more disturbing than the idea of being hunted by something like Alien; at least you can be pretty sure of a quick death from the latter.

While I agree the crawlers were scary as fuck I thought they were pretty generic looking. Which is great, because they needed to be believable (to a certain extent) and they certainly looked earthly (I thought), but they didn't quite have that iconic design that you put with real timeless movie monsters.

Incidentally I was leafing through a H R Geiger artbook the other day; I can't help but think his stuff is really cool, even the alien rape mosters and tumour babies.

I'd say the reavers from Firefly/Serenity come closer, they were really unsettling.

Jesus wept the TV ad is awful. "The most significant Brit chiller since 28 Days Later". Empire magazine. THE SAME CUNTING MAGAZINE THAT DID NOT MENTION THIS MOVIE UNTIL IT HAD BEEN RELEASED. Burn in hell, you utter scum. how dare you compare it to such a crock of shite.

The film was rubbish.

Apparently it had one scary bit, where the first evil white gollumy thing appears. However, at that exact point I looked down to pick up a bit of pizza. So as my friend screamed and ran to hide behind me, I was pretty non plussed by it.

Girls could have been fitter too.

Tut.

Yeah, but they were more just mentalists. The EVIL FOLK in Descent were like, us, if we had no eyesight and lived in caves.

Ish.

I thought it was pretty good. I like the way Marshall got across the fact that one of the women was having an affair with the main character's husband, with just minimal dialogue and suggestive looks/camera shots etc.

I thought it lost something of its power when it got overly gorey towards the end but still, a big improvement on Dog Soldiers. I'm definitely looking forward to his next film.
