He backs Harry S Truman for dropping the A-Bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki because it was 'for the greater good' or whatever and when

Veidt essentially does the same thing to New York

, he throws his toys out of the pram.

He's a great character though, obviously.

if it's a shit film it's not going to damage the reputation of the book in any way, if anything it will enhance it and hopefully make people go out and buy it.

"Oh look, it's the comic of that shit film. I'm having that."

Worked for Howard the Duck.

From Joblo.com

He [Gerard Butler] will indeed be playing the lead in TALES OF THE BLACK FREIGHTER, a planned animated adaptation that will be on the eventual DVD release. Butler would play Hitler Scottish. He had the following to say: "I’m going to do the voice of the captain... They’re going to do it in the style of a Japanese anime and I’m totally stoked. I actually read the script before reading the comic book and I thought it was awesome... Then I read the comic book and it’s great. The little bits that have been added define it so much more. It’s very dark and there’s just something so descriptive and scary. It’s this descent into madness but explained in such a sane way that you totally feel it yourself. By the end, my heart was pumping!”

I'd imagine that "Japanese anime" chat is simply a case of Butler being a bit ignorant when he simply meant "animated." But I think, since they're including it, it probably makes sense to animate the Black Freighter. It could be pretty cool. Indeed, it could (stylistically) end up being the best thing in the film. Of course, it really has no need to be in there, pretty much for the reasons posted by K back there. But since it's going in, why not stick that comic-within-a-comic up there on screen, looking like a comic? It could be good.

Silk Spectre looks hot, and the comedian looks badass.

The Comedian looks spot on, like he'd piss on you after he's finished beating the shit out of you.

I too am a bit unsure of Veldt's look, and isnt Nite-owl just a bit too butch? Still looks promising.

they just look dark because they've been 'shooped to fuck.

they look far better than i had hoped - The Comedian looks the fucking nuts - the wavey hair and moustache are spot on.

it's the problem you get when trying to re-create comic book costumes, you almost *have* to add additional detail to make them visually interesting when they move - they made Spiderman's costume all bumpy and Superman suddenly looked like he was wearing chainmail.

That Silk Spectre picture is hilarious, she's about as badass as a can of Diet-Coke but they stick her in a dramatic pose with MEGAFLAMES all around.

The Comedian, Nite Owl and everyone's favourite ginger nut psychopath are great, Veidt looks completely and utterly wrong though. That guy's barely had time to start shaving let alone grow up, abandon a fortune, amass another, become a superhero and retire.

Rorschach and Silk Spectre look good; she looks quite like a friend of mine, and pretty much bang on how she looks in the comic. Nite Owl and the Comedian look a bit off somehow; neither really look like superheroes and both look a bit made-for-TV.

Ulala call it, in that Veidt looks ridiculously young. I would hazard a guess that any shots of the characters in costume like that will be from their sixties/seventies heydays (i.e. flashbacks) rather than from the eighties, where most of the protagonists would be middle-aged. I hope so anyway, because if that's meant to be Veidt in the present then they've totally fucked up. The ginger kid from Harry Potter would be more convincing.

isn't that the point though - they're just costumed avengers and nowhere near being super, and make up for being middle-aged men by dressing up and using gadgets.

the picture of Veidt probably is from the Silver Age, as his costume is different later on. i can't see them putting all that effort into the production design then forgetting that Veidt changes his clothes.
