Streets Of Rage 2

SOR3 always seemed silly-hard to me. I can get through 2 on normal at a push, but only a few levels into 3...

I did 2 on hardest using all continues on both pads. Beat Mr X on my last life. The game then tells me that there is a 'Mania' difficulty. Great.

Streets of Rage II is the best scrolling beat-'em-up ever made.

Streets of Rage 3 isn't particularly rare, and certainly not worth £50. The Japanese version is easier.

The inclusion of the games on the Sonic Gems Collection hasn't been debunked.

Get a DC! Best console of this gen!

Believe it

Has it not? I thought Sega announced a list of all titles in the collection, which didn't include the SoRs. Or are you thinking unlockable extras? :P

Furthermore, masterpiece action of Mega drive hides, as a game many recording! Details still are puzzle, but also opposition & cooperative action is the り, ill-smelling it is! Cooperating with the friend and the sibling, it probably will fight!

So there's definitely some other MD games on there (as there were on Sonic Mega Collection), although it's not clear which games.

SOR3's a bag of shit. everything about it feels as if some team of hacks murdered the SOR2 team and churned it out themselves.

SOR2 of course, is bloody classic stuff. and SOR1 is surprisingly good fun, in a different way. it's worth playing through just to get to level 7; so you can throw all the baddies off the side of the lift :D

[edit] just completed that SOR remake [it's just the first level] - pretty good effort.

You think? I think SOR3s mint. Ace tunes and a lost faster attacks.

Sat and completed this with my mate a few weeks ago on the megadrive, fantastic fun.

Although we usually only get to a part where theres gap in the ground that you die if you fall into and end up throwing each other in til one of us runs out of lives.

Gotta love at the end of Streets of Rage 1 where the boss gives you the chance to fight him or join him.

Cue me joining him in two player mode and fighting my friend until all of my 5 credits are gone, excellent fun.

Oh and another tick in the "SoR3 is shit box".

awesome, simply awesome stuff - i still go back to these games on a regular basis. except sor3 though as the soundtrack is, to be blunt, a crock of shit lapse in concentration for yuzo koshiro

check out the sor1&2 soundtrack remixes on www.ocremix.org, some of them are arranged in just the right way - lovely

Why SoR3 is shit:

- too "loose", in that SoR2 really feels like an impact when you punch your opponents. In SoR3, you wobble all over the place, constantly.

- awful music/quality. Not only are the tunes totally forgettable, but they sound like they're being bled out of a cheese grater. Painful.

- too complex. 6 buttons is fucking stupid, as is "X + D, F, U" button combinations.

- upwards/downwards dash moves. WTF?

- that stupid meter in the middle for the special attack moves. WHY??

- Dr. Zen, the useless geriatric. Bollocks.

- painfully garrish graphics.

- super cleverly hard enemies who can grab you. Minus fun points.

Why SoR3 is good:

- gay character Ash is hilarious.

Shiva. I heard that he was playable aswell.

Also can someone who has completed SOR3 clear something up for me. My GF's bro said that him and his mate clocked it and the message "To be continued....next summer" or something along those lines, implying that a 2nd part was due? Any confirmations on this?

Nah, they probably got the 'bad' ending.

You have to attempt to save someone - depending if you do or not - the final level is entirely different. If you failed though you don't get to face the real boss at the end...

It is quite fiddly and annoying to do - especially as it's a much harder game than 2 anyway.

3 is OK, and it does add a few new elements in which have potential - but it does just feel a bit too much like a level hack. And the pallette swapped characters looked shite.

I hope everyone knows the Kangaroo cheat in SOR3. Get to the boxing kangaroo boss, and kill his trainer but not him. Now when you die, you can continue as the kangaroo.

Shiva is also hidden in SOR3: After defeating him at the end of Round 1 hold B until the next Round starts. He's now selectable as a character.

Ash (who Shiva replaced) is also selectable - but only in Bare Knuckle 3 (Japanese SOR3) hold A instead.

Didn't Richard Jacques do the soundtrack for SOR3, rather than Yuzo Koshiro? That would account for why it's a bit bobbins.

http://www.classicgaming.com/soronline/sor3_soundtrack.htm

Yuzo Koshiro says that the music in Streets of Rage 3 was developed using an "Automated Composing System" which created "fast-beat techno like jungle".

RJ's first sega work was on DarXide (32X) & Shinobi X (Saturn).

The mad raging homo* Ash is probably the best thing about SOR3. Or the worst. I haven't decided.

* - nothing against gay people; Ash is probably the greatest realisation of a particular stereotype ever

;):) :)

EDIT: Better explain... Never thought of Max as a mad raging homo before, I was quite young tho :)

sor 2 has a massive bug ....theres 1 combo that defeats almost any enemy from full health down.

Thats just tapping punch, with a slight gap between each press, with Axel. Right?

Its not a bug - he's just hard.

:)

On a Street of Rage type theme did anyone ever play Vendetta in the arcades? Perhaps I'm imagining this but I'm pretty sure on the third stage set in a seedy part of town, where henchmen clad in fishnets and leather sporting handlebar moustaches would jump on the back of you and gyrate whilst moaning with pleasure. <_<
