Interesting article about Gnabry on the Athletic today.

After returning from the failed loan at WBA he played well for Germany in the Olympics and we wanted to extend his contract, but he knew there were too many players ahead of him in the pecking order so wanted to move on.

Looks like Bayern engineered the move to park him at Bremen and had a €8m release put into the contract which they took a year later.

The new signings looked great. The fact it finished at 4 was a bit of a disappointment really, it should have been much more.

It’s not exactly a positive overall, but it is more fun having a League Cup match every couple of weeks rather than watching us get obliterated in the Champion’s League by Barcelona, scraping through the group in second and then going out to Bayern in the knockout stages.

I listened to Wilock after the game where he said that the players are encouraged to attack, even at 4-0 Emery wants them to keep attacking and get more.

Yet when you hear the first team talk they talk about how they are told to play deep and play out from the back and stay compact.

it's like he's using the euro-squad to light a fire under the 1st team. Kind of like when Rocky (III) learns to box right-handed, for the rematch with clubber lang, to throw him off his game.

It's hard to watch this team sometimes. Just so slow shifting the ball from back to front. But a win to go third is pretty decent. David Luizs best match so far, scored and put in some important tackles. I thought Ceballos was really good and Pepe seems to be improving.

Bad time for the international break as we're on this nice little run.

Theres definetly a massive contrast between the way Arsenal are set up and play in the league compared to the Europa League, almost like Emery and thus the players are afraid of the opposition (which Xhaka confirmed against Watford)

It’s so weird coming from the game on Thursday which was moving the ball quickly and putting pressure on high up the pitch to this today.

We look so slow and clueless.

Honestly we need to remove Xhaka and Sokritis from the team, we are so quick in transition with the cup side and it starts with a midfielder coming deep and quickly playing forward or one of the centre halves playing out fast. In the league Xhaka is exposed and doesn’t move the ball fast enough, neither centre half look comfortable either.

Tierny and Bellerin are needed in this side stat, they added so much on Thursday.

Standard Leige are a better side than Bournemouth too so it’s not about playing inferior teams.

I’m just looking forward to the next Europa league now.
