If you’re in to your conspiracy theories, check out the Athletic article about betting activity on a player booking for one of our games, and then search Twitter for Xhaka betting in the Leeds game before Xmas.

Or just post the video so everyone can see

Can't see any reason for Xhaka stalling there except wanting a yellow card, after two players became available. Who wastes time 3 goals up with 5 minutes to go. But who knows what thoughts regularly float through his mind though.

Burnley are such a shitty team, time wasted from the like the 10th minute saying that thow the ref only added on 4 minutes is a joke(not sure we would have scored however). they should have had two players sent off in the opening 20 minutes but that would have probably made it harder. I'll be interested to see Dyche comments on the diving and time wasting from his team...

Think this game highlights our need for a striker that can play as a target man we can aim for when we can't work the spaces.

Hope they get relegated.

Didn't think it was possible to play worse than they did against Everton but that was the worst 90 minutes I can remember. Just dogshit from back to front. At some point did Marteneli and Odegaard not think 'these floated, aimless crosses aren't achieving anything - maybe we should switch it up a bit?'. I know the bench was a bit thin but to bring on that waster Nketiah?

It’s a tired team playing without a striker. Lacazette should be appreciated for what he’s done over the last few weeks as he’s helped hang the team together, but really he offers zero goal threat at this stage. If we can bring someone in then top four is a possibility, if we don’t then we’ve no chance.

Rubbish game to watch though. Burnley gladly dragged it into the ditches and the ref was more than willing to accommodate them. It’s not even like they’re a dirty team, they just seem to be given the benefit of the doubt for every decision. Officiate the incidents, not the team. It’s not difficult.

I wonder if we'll get Melo? He's always seemed a bit underwhelming to me but at this stage any body that can go in midfield would be fine. Vlahović on the other hand is one of those classic transfer rumours that is all anyone talks about for a month, and then you read one day that he's quietly gone to Juventus and had no intention of ever joining your club anyway. It's way too good to be true.

You've been playing this game for too long. Fair play.

To be fair, he has been linked with Juventus from the start (and also variously with Man Utd, Liverpool and Chelsea even before the Arsenal connection, I think?)

I mean I'm sure Arsenal would've liked him, but it never seemed like anything more than fluff talk.

In patches he’s looked like he could kick on and become a decent centre half, but he’s had some terrible injuries and he had one game against Swansea where if he’d announced his retirement from football straight afterwards I could understand why. In some people’s eyes he never recovered from that performance.

He’ll do a job in a few positions, but he’s limited and has bad lapses of concentration. Maybe with a manager that believes in him he could fulfil his potential as there’s a player in there somewhere:

Pretty much as expected then.  I figured we might get someone of this ilk because we lost Axel Tuanzebe to Napoli a couple of weeks ago and he was a decent squad guy who could fill in to a competent level in several positions.  I wonder if this deal is one of those "relationship building" things because I keep hearing rumours that Arsenal are in for Douglas Luiz.

Reading that back it sounded a bit harsh on reflection. He's an excellent pro by all accounts and also seems like a really decent chap. I think had we not have been saddled with Cedric and his dodgy contract he'd maybe have been someone we wanted to keep, but there you go.

What it all means for Arsenal I don't know. The decks have been so thoroughly cleared there's no really much room for manoeuvre. Aubameyang looks to be the last thing to be unclogged before the water in the bowl of Arsenal's transfer window slowly begins to pleasingly swirl again. We've made some awesome signings recently, but Edu does have a habit of paying top whack to get what he wants, so maybe they'll just do that again on someone. A couple of signings will 100% be the difference between 4th and 8-10th, so cheap could well be very expensive.

It's such a shame. Took the team on his shoulders to win us that FA Cup. It does always end like this for him when he leaves a club, but I kind of wish he'd waited another few months before melting down as we are right up the spout now. I can see the logic in waiting until the summer to get the player you really want – whoever that might be is – but the drift out of contention seems inevitable without someone to play upfront. Also, I'm a supporter, I'm not running the club so I'm allowed to be illogical. Blow some of Stan's dosh on Isak this afternoon and see where the chips fall.

It’s a free transfer too rather than a loan. Aubemeyang we hardly knew ye. Also we’ve signed some American lad who stays in the MLS and then weirdly we’ve announced he’s to be packed off on loan to Europe next season. He’s hardly a spring chicken either.

“Get excited.” Truer now than ever.
