The Fox
Fucksake. That triple substitution was completely unnecessary. No idea what Arteta was thinking.

humdrum
Not sure how you can rule out a goal for "contact" but then not give a penalty for wrestling Eddie in the box,...
Shoes
United were for the taking. Arteta fucked it.
The Fox
Looking forward to us battering Spurs but losing 3-0 to three counter-attacks.
Silent Runner
That second goal was pure class. The ball in from Xhaka and the header were superb. Very impressed after 30 minutes.
wev
Lovely from Vieira, would have expected a shot from there to be across the goal, not at the near post
Art Vandelay
Fair play to the Brentford fans for impeccably observing the minutes silence for the Queen throughout the 90 minutes.
Mars
Really like Xhaka this season, this role suits him much better.
Gotters
Solid confident win and exactly what we should be doing to teams like Brentford, but of course haven't been doing for quite some time consistently. Trust the process. With the fixtures we've had at the start of the season it would almost be a crime to not be top now with how much we've spent (but plenty have spent money badly before, ourselves iuncluded) - the real test comes in the next batch of fixtures after the interlull and we'll start to learn a bit more about this team. Lot to like at the moment though.

Silent Runner
Multiple chances to get the ball clear before the foul. That pissing around at the back is so frustrating.

Frustrating half, should have scored at least one more. Odegaard needs to realise not every pass needs to be one for the YouTube reel and just play the simple pass when it's on. Art Vandelay
I think I may have gone for Tierney in this game in retrospect. I reckon he’s better when facing our goal and wouldn’t be leaving these Grand Canyon gaps. Gabriel has been poor too on a few occasions, especially trying to play the trap in their half as that’s just him getting sucked forward. It’s not like Spurs’ approach is a surprise as they do it in literally every game so stop falling for it.

The Fox
Think that red is a bit harsh tbh. It’s a stupid tackle but there’s not a lot of force to it. Great stuff from Xhaka though.
wev
Agreed, the red was a bit of a weird decision, was just a late, clumsy challenge really
Silent Runner
Peter Walton (yeah, I know) said it was red and I think I agree - studs up and nowhere near the ball.
Petrousgyre
Dangerous challenge with Martinelli going towards his own goal. Kind of stupid challenge you’d have expected from Xhaka prior to this season (you hope).

Larsen B
We were under par compared to some recent games but still dominated in every respect. Perhaps winning pretty is actually a better predictor for sustainable success than winning ugly?

The Fox
The cope posts in the Spurs thread are delicious, but I suppose it must rot your brain a bit having to watch Conte's rope-a-dope Sufferball week in week out.
wev
It's the "lacklustre defending" one that amuses me, aside from the comical second goal (which looked exactly like the type of goal Arsenal were conceding at the end of Wenger's time and during Emery's tenure) it wasn't poor defending that led to Partey's goal not Xhaka and if anything the only reason that Spurs had that 15 minute sniff in the first half was down to some old-school Sokrates and Mustafi style defending
