Dude Ranch
I think my suspicions were confirmed as Campbell and his old man didn't show for a meeting to firm up the deal. His Dad has said he doesn't care that Arsenal have closed the door as there will be plenty more offers. Where's that info from?
Steve007
I guess Gervinho is going to be No9? Also I don't think we'll give No15 to anyone until Denilson leaves for good. Ditto No1 with Almunia. Surely the club should retire the No 15 jersey in his honour for the years of joy he gave to the fans and for the huge service he gave to the club?
Art Vandelay
Where's that info from? Gunnerblog's Twitter feed. He broke the story I think and his coverage has been pretty spot on. He's just quoting what the kid's Dad was interviewed as saying though. It would be a pity if we've been tagged along to drum up interest in the player. carlito
Yeah it looks legit too. Quotes from club and father in La Nacion newspaper. I don't know why, and I nothing at all to base this on, but I have a wierd feeling that he is going become disgracefully good.

SeanR
Peter Hill-Wood reckons Barca have bid £26m for Fabregas. What the absolute fuck? chill, that'll turn out to be about 30 million euros... oh wait.
The Fox
I guess we'll find out come the CL qualifiers whether anything is going to happen on that front. PHW is right though, it is disruptive and very, very boring. I'd hoped after the debacle of last summer that this year they would either put up the money or shut the fuck up, but sadly not. I don't really understand it though because it makes them seem like a right bunch of clowns.
carlito
It means that Fabregas doesn't go to another club or sign a new contract as he believes he is on the brink of his dream move each season. Then when they actually do have a space in their team they can get him for cheaps if they still fancy him, or fuck it off and blame Arsenal for not letting him go earlier if they decide Tiago Alcantara or whoever is good enough to replace Xavi.

The Fox
I think it's been assumed for some time that we would be open to selling this summer, at the right price. Barca don't want to pay that price, though. @ carlito - good point. You'd think the penny will drop with the guy at some point though. It seems fairly clear that Barca don't really want him all that much right now. If they thought he was such a precious flower I doubt you'd have their president publicly saying Cesc isn't worth €40m. Daley
Barca are playing a very delicate, clever game. Offer for Cesc, but not too much. Make it clear we wan't him, but not that much. He's "ours" after all. They know he won't go elsewhere. Eventually Arsenal will sell, what's the absolute minimum? I say fuck them off and get Mourinho on the phone. Steve007
Just been reading more about this Joel Campbell fiasco. I hate it when the fathers or family members play the role of agents. The kid has only got to have a crap tournament and no further offers will come in! Even Campbell's club are pissed off the deal didn't go through: Saprissa president Juan Carlos Rojas has expressed his disappointment that Campbell's transfer to Arsenal will not come to fruition."It's disappointing for football, for Saprissa that these people have not taken Arsenal's offer seriously," explained Rojas. Steve007
BBC are reporting we had a bid for Jagielka rejected (link is broken on BBC sport). I'm not over the moon that we were bidding for him in the first place...
Naysonymous
Made me chuckle on Twitter: @GarethDParkerFor those of you unsure about Jagielka ponder this... not only is he a fine defender, he's also a better keeper than Almunia. For what it's worth I think Jagielka is a superb player. I was always surprised it took so long for somebody to take him from Sheffield United because he was their best player by a mile for years, and he has played very well at Everton and would have more England caps if it wasnt for him doing his cruciate ligament just as he was breaking into the squad. He could be just what Arsenal need, an experienced campaigner with five or six seasons still in the tank.
Daley
Everton have turned down a £10m offer from Arsenal for England defender Phil Jagielka.Arsenal boss Wenger moved for Jagielka, 28, in his search for the commanding central defensive figure that has been a priority this summer. But he will need to come back with an offer closer to £20m for the Goodison Park club to even consider a deal. Everton's refusal was hardened by the fact that they rejected a £12m Arsenal bid for Jagielka last summer. Who we got negotiating for us? wev
We're taking the Barcelona approach to transfer bids. Eboue will be in the papers tomorrow saying Jagielka has Arsenal DNA, or he'd like to give him Arsenal DNA, one of the two.

Jagielka is on record as saying that if you cut him he would have red blood flowing through his veins.
Steve007
Who we got negotiating for us? Trigger from Only Fools and Horses? This is why I was going on about wanting David Dein back the other day. When he did the deals, the media would never run stories like "Arsenal's bid for 'x' was rejected". It would always be "'X' signs for Arsenal". Deals were always done quietly & efficiently. Whoever is trying to do the deals at Arsenal these days is an embarrassment to the club. Remember the shameful way the club went about trying to sign Mark Schwarzer last year? Even Trig wouldn't have gone back with a lower bid after being told the initial bid was not high enough. Fucking prats, whoever they are.
Steve007
Everton fans going mental on one of their forums: arsenal have got some cheek bidding 10mil for jags, just trying to unsettle our players becuase no1 wants to play for them.
hercules
It would be nice if we just went out and signed these players instead of pissing around trying to save as much money on transfers a possible. But then we all know what arsenal are like! I personally rate Jagielka but don't think he is the "tall" and "imposing" centre half we need

CandyBob
£10m for Jags is not that cheeky though. He seems solid enough but has had injury problems and he is by no means World Class yet. For Everton I guess they feel they have another Lescott on their hands. They absolutely robbed City because they knew they could get away with it. Arsene plays a completely different game which is why signings for us are so few and far between. I'm sure we have bid for lots of players over recent years but Arsene goes in with what he feels is the right price which more often than not is less than the inflated market wants. If we were in for a CB and we were having to pay £15-£20m then Jagielka is not the one I'd be throwing the money at.
carlito
Who says we have made this bid anyway? Didn't this self same guff come out over Oxlaide Chamberlain where much was made of the lowball bids that we made and then Saints came out and said they had received no bids at all from anyone. Absolutely as you say though, to Everton who would struggle to replace him he is worth every penny. I'd rather we spent the money on Cahill who I think overall has more potential and PL experience. Kelthink
Charlie Adam was worth about £100m to Blackpool, that doesn't mean that's what Liverpool should have bid. That's an odd concept. Not really. I don't think Fabregas is worth £50 million to Barca but he is to Arsenal. Blackpool were also relegated which usually affects player values considerably too. There's loads of factors in play obviously, but £10 million for Jagielka is definitely taking the piss.
