Have to say if Cesc does go and Wenger brings in Mata to play on the left and moves Nasri to the center I'd be happy. Hopefully some of the Cesc money can go towards a new center back as well. The thought of a front 3 of Mata/Van Persie/Gervino would be pretty sweet, obviously never gonna happen now we've all got excited about it!

I've seen the rumours about Mata signing for us. Don't think I've ever seen him play, but he seems highly rated. Another potential dwarf to the team.

He's an absolutely superb player, but more an Arshavin than a Cesc replacement I would have thought.

Arsène Wenger has revealed that Abou Diaby underwent surgery on his ankle over the summer and will miss the start of the new Premier League season.

The France midfielder was troubled with an ankle problem last term and has not featured for Arsenal in pre-season, missing the tour of Asia and the Club’s training camp in Germany.

Wenger doesn’t expect Diaby to return until September meaning he will be sidelined for games against Newcastle, Liverpool and Manchester United as well as the Champions League Play-Off.

“Abou had ankle surgery during the break,” Wenger told Arsenal.com.

“Normally he should be back eight to ten weeks after his surgery, which means the end of August.”

Someone really offered £10m for this "footballer"?

In the unlikely event that we do somehow manage to wrap up the signings of Mata, Jagielka and Anthony, then I think I'd be pretty happy with our Summer's business.* I've made my peace with all our other mooted (not) comings and (not) goings, and will be pretty happy with the squad then. We'll have decent cover in defence (with the possible exception of left-back), have strength in depth (if not stature - please come good Frimpong...) in midfield and some potency and craft going forward. Probably.

Hell, if we actually have that luck with injuries we must surely be due by now, we could even have a pretty good season.

...

Yep, I think I might've perfected cautious optimism. It's a bit beige, but it'll do for now...

* If they could be signed in time to be presented in front of me at the Emirates tomorrow that'd be even better (and not at all unrealistically optimistic.) Please, Arsene?

Ramsey does look an incredible player doesn't he? I know Wilshere gets all the press because he's English, but I think Ramsey might be really, really special.

Rosicky also looked sharp again which is great news.

Gervinho looks like he could be pretty exciting too if he can play the same way against proper opposition.

Pretty fucking hyped about the new season now.
