Pffft. You're welcome to it, although to me that's like saying "You guys go ahead and eat at The French Laundry, I'll stick to the Harvester thanks".

I do not like Gears of War. :)

I ate there once while staying at my sister-in law's in Yountville. Fucking amazing evening.

I wouldn't compare it to playing that demo. It was more like eating KFC in Bangkok airport - reassuringly familiar sights and sounds, but a bit sinewy and requiring work to digest.

Wow, I'd love to eat there.

I meant the full game of course. This is just a little amuse-bouche. Or a piece of popcorn chicken, depending on which side of the fence you fall.

Buying it day one, no question and I'll force myself to make it click again (I can't not play the new Resi) Just amazed at how much my brain has rewired itself to the point it feels genuinely awkward to play. Almost to the point where you feel you have the Y or X axis the wrong way for you.

I wish they'd hurry up and remake Resi 2, rather than faffing around with all this nonsense in africa.

It's all just faffing isn't it? Too much faffing these days.

Anyway, there are normally some quite diverse locales. In RE4 you may recall that you take a boat to an Island for the 3rd part of the game. Obviously they need to up the ante for this game, so I firmly believe the 3rd section will take place in Space. That way we can really get into these Dead Space control comparisons.

And every time you save she could have a 3 minute long cmonologue explaining some irrelevent chinese parable. Then when they meet wesker he could spoud philosophical psychobabble for 5 minutes before suddenly mentioning a secret organisation which had been running everything from behind the scenes the whole time.

Actually, this is worryingly close to resi as it is anyway.

I think considering 4 was so vastly different to the previous ones and it worked so well, it was surely slightly inevitable that this would be more of the same?

If they added in moving while shooting, they might as well remove emblems, green herbs (which, face it, are completely ludicrous; they're potted plants :)) and zombies, it's a Resi thing.

Admittedly I haven't been about to play the demo as of yet so I might be in here later after I get a chance spitting and moaning about it but I still think I'll be getting it anyway, it's Resi!

Also, it was revealed early on that it wasn't made by the same chap and team as any of the others (iirc) so clearly they just churned out some more of the same but with co-op flavour. Which arguably isn't such a bad thing... at least they didn't try and turn it into an FPS or something.

I'll stick with Gears of War for my third person shooter fix, if it's all the same with you guys

You guys! You're both fools! Resi4 is obviously the best game EVER and Gears 2 (not one) is SOOO GOOD it's SO similar that you'd have to be crazy to like one not the other, they're like best mates, one likes going to the gym and saying "Hoo-ah!" and saying funny things (sometimes with swears) and the other likes... ...painting their face white while wearing funny contact lenses and creeping round in the dark going "huuuuuuuurrrr ooooooorrrrrhhhhhhh" or something like that.

Gears and Resi 4's combat, despite how they're dressed, is pretty much the same thing.

And if you think that Mercenaries isn't bettered by Horde then we don't agree.

I was just thinking about why the co-op works so well in this. Single player is good, I was enjoying it plenty – until I played co-op and realized how much better it is. I think it’s because the path through the game is actually quite linear (unlike say Halo 3, where you could both be miles apart) so you’ve always got an idea where the other person is. For example the bit where Sheva goes on the roof and Chris is on the path below. As Sheva I found I could keep an eye on Chris at all times and cover accordingly. It works really well.

You're playing Halo wrong! Is this your first foray into proper co-op gaming? I know you don't like Gears but that's all about working together and pushing forward one at a time. Army of Two was great for having you cover your team mate while they were carrying an injured civilian. Of course Halo 3, the game you don't think works had you flying a chopper and dropping off two team mates onto the back of a scarab while a fourth distracts the weapons using a warthog.

Not sure why people are bothered about standing still and shooting. Running and gunning is the way of the loose. It's all about picking your shots.

I haven't played Gears 2, because I didn't like Gears 1. I'll have to take your word for it, but that gym guy is well annoying.

Anyway, let's not drag this into a Gears topic, or Gwynster will come in here and then angel will put me on ignore (again) and then where will we be.

Quite possibly. All I know is that while I was umming and ahhing over which gun to pick up, and scouring for grenades, my mate was shouting "Come on, hurry up!" and had driven off about a mile away. It never felt like we were close enough physically in the game arena to work together. It may be because we tried the Scarab level in 2 player. Plus we just kept getting killed.

Fair enough, but I think finding the characters in Gears annoying is silly, I find it all very amusing. You should give it a go, if only for Horde, it's amazing.

And with that, I leave this thread behind.

Quoted for truth, I was going to say something like this but decided against it since I haven't actually played it yet (My Xbox has hopefully just been returned by UPS ). In Gears for example I'd pretty much never move and shoot at the same time, only times I can think of where I'd fire blind is in multiplayer with the shotgun.

Apart from the fact that Army of Two was shit.

I don't remember that bit. I remember the fairly decent third person shooter that made interesting use of the co-op mechanic. In fact from what I've played of the RE5 demo it's very much like Army of Two but with slightly worse combat and zombies which makes up for the slightly worse combat by a billion.

I looks like CoD4. Shame it doesn't play as well. An action shooter in which you can't move/strafe and shoot is just awkward. It feels clunky and old.

"Strafe" and "clunky" in the same post? Why not just paint a target on your forehead? Give me your address and we'll get it over and done with.

Gears 1 is a pale shadow of 2. 2 is a blast from almost start to finish. Seriously, put aside the huge man prejudice and join in the fun. Gears 2 single player is pure amaze.
