Hmmmm, I'm still not convinced I want an AI character with me all through the game. Does it not erode that sense of lonely, one-man-against-the-horde exploration that RE games usually have? Does she talk shite all the time as well?

Agreed, look at RE:Zero.

However, if you want "that sense of lonely, one-man-against-the-horde exploration" you should be playing Dead Space :)

In all honesty, her presence in the demo was mostly overriden by the sheer amount of infected coming my way constantly. I barely heard her say anything except thanks when I healed her or one line comments when I needed help or was badly hurt.

She did end my game because she got her head chopped off once or twice, and sometimes her head got in the way of my screen area when I was shooting, but outside of that she didn't feel like a huge intrusion at all. It certainly didn't reduce the enjoyment of the demo once I got into it properly and the knowledge that on a second or third playthrough I could experience it with friends as well was kinda cool

As much as I enjoyed Dead Space, I'm replaying RE4 at the moment and it blows it out the water for variation and feeling of progress.

We all know that co-op is the magic ingredient these days and forcing it into every game possible, is a wining forumla.

Just look at how great Army of Two was

Sorry, but that just doesn't make any sense.

Army of Two was designed around co-op, a very popular feature these days. You can't argue it was forced into the game when the game was designed around it as the central mechanic.

Army of Two is not bad because it's a co-op game, Army of Two is just bad.

It's not co-op in the way that, say, Ghost Recon is co-op. It's actually very, very well done. Think Resi Zero, with the second character being player controlled, and the need to balance the ammo you pick up between the two of you.

Without a second player, Sheva can be set to Cover or Attack (a simple case of holding the B button in the Type D control config and pressing up or down on the D-pad), can be called to help with B if you hit trouble, and operates independantly with decent A.I. It's rare to feel like you're micromanaging her stupidity, even if she can go a bit trigger happy and gets through a lot of ammo. She's certainly no Ashley, though - when the going gets tough, Sheva doesn't need babysitting.

In general, she's with you most of the way, but there are times you can give her a boost to cover you from above, or send her off to flick a switch to open a gate and let you through.

Most importantly for me, despite the co-op, it still feels like Resi - actually far more than #4 did.

Whooo.

Capcom's Resident Evil 5 Collector's Edition Exposed!

Capcom is pleased to announce the Resident Evil 5 Collector’s Edition. First teased last week at the Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas, the Collector’s Edition will be available on day one of the game shipping Friday, March 13, 2009. Available for only a limited time, gamers will be able to pre-order the collectible set starting today at the Capcom store at www.capcom.com. On launch date, the set will be available at all major retailers in North America with a price of $89.99 for the Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3.

For fans of the highly popular series, the box set is not to be missed as it will include a host of never-before-seen collectible items not available anywhere else. All designed around RE5’s Kijuju setting and the game’s in-depth storyline, the box will include a Tricell messenger bag, Chris Redfield figurine, BSAA patch and Kijuju-inspired pendant.

Bringing the entire collection together is a custom made steel case with special art showcasing signature elements of the RE5 campaign - the Kijuju writings, ominous number five and two-player co-op. Inside the steel case is where the real action lies, with a two disc set including the game and bonus disc with additional special features. The Making of Resident Evil 5 feature, first shown at the Tokyo Game Show, will be released on the bonus disc for the first time. A digital art gallery showcasing the game’s incredible HD graphics and impressive art style and a Resident Evil Degeneration Trailer will top off the special features making a bonus disc that is a must-have for all Resident Evil devotees.

Hope the Euro version turns out to be the same.

Has it been confirmed or denied whether there'll be target practice stalls like in RE4, the ones where you can win the bottle tops? I'm thinking with no merchant there's no target practice game?

No idea- probably won't know something like that until final code is out

I take it the Japanese LE of Resi 5 will be bilingual? If so, I'm importing that.

If it's like the other Resi games it'll be English speaking with subs and all text in Japanese. Depending how puzzle heavy it is and whether you don't missing some descriptions when checking stuff out it'll be pretty playable.

I downloaded the Japanese versions of Resi 2 & 3 and am finding the puzzle sections pretty annoying without a FAQ. After getting over the initial shock of the graphics it's amazing how atmospheric these games still are. Made me kind of miss the set-up camera angles.

There's a Trophy for collecting all the "figurines", so it's possible they're related to a shooting gallery. Then again they might just be hidden items.

Well, I've finally done that second section of the demo. Jesus that fucking chainsaw twat is hard as nails. I'm still not completely sold on it. I don't know what it is. There's something in the controls that feels different to the cube version of RE4 when using the same set up. And the button placement on the strafing one is arse about tit and just doesn't sit right. It's really hard to say what's different but something is and it just doesn't feel as tight. I'm still going to get it of course. I have no doubt that it will still be ace as well. I just think I need to downgrade my expectations somewhat.

"Clunky" again? I'm buying you bastards a thesaurus one of these days.

Just post them a link to an online one. Save the money to buy RE 5.

Just saw an RE5 video off of the Xbox360 Marketplace on a mate's console :) .

Oh man, Why does it feel like Capcom given so much of the game away this time?

RE4 was an awesome surprise because hardly anything was given away from the later parts of the games.

I know Resi is an impossible overblown fantasy world not to be taken seriously, but Wesker fighting a T-Rex? They've jumped the shark even more than that time there was a shark.

I'm also concerned the game will be bunglesome.

How so? Just think of it as an extension to Dino Crisis :)
