Zelda: Twilight Princess

It's definitely the best console game I played last year, but it's still massively flawed. Those Midna jumping bits, what on earth were they thinking?

If there is one unarguable, fully justified criticism of TP, this is it. I absolutely agree that it makes zero sense to have some areas in which you can jump vast distances using Midna, and some where you can't climb up a ledge that is slightly taller than Link. It didn't adversely affect my enjoyment, as I just thought "Ok, those are The Rules", but it's still appallingly inconsistent.

I'm at 85 hours by the way. All heart pieces, all upgrades, nearly all chests, just 10 Poes to find.

It's bitty and dull. There should be much more going on than there is.

The towns I've found to be pretty forgettable. Castle Town being split into minuscule sections which loaded separately irritated me and the others were just a bit boring. Kakariko Village being a single straight road is a joke.

Oh, and I really didn't like seeing them all in twilight first. That was a huge mistake. I really think they dropped the ball with the whole twilight thing.

Ooh no, I loved that. I really enjoyed the way they gave you sort of preview of each place, then eased the pace off to let you explore at your leisure. The return visit was a totally different experience to when you're in Twilight (For example, smashing through windows as the wolf, and blowing up that guy's Bomb Shop. That was a cool bit).

Kakariko isn't really a straight road either, it has a lot of vertical exploration areas, The Hot Spring, the Graveyard, etc. I'd have liked more to do in Castle Town maybe, but it's a big ask when there's so much other content.

I'm near the end of the Arbiter's Grounds, and there seems to be a glitch where Link keeps walking as if he's in quicksand when he gets back on solid ground. I have to get past a slowly-closing door, too, so it looks like this could be a genuine game-breaker.

Any ideas, folks?

Use your senses. its no bug.

I just finished dungeon 4, worst dungeon so far for me, so many annoying little things blocking your path and what is this tony hawk or zelda?

Dungeon 4 was awesome! Great atmosphere, great puzzles, great monsters, great boss, great new item.

Actually, while I'm in a good mood, my favourites list for the dungeons would be:

Dungeon 7 (mainly for the boss, but also for the original setting)

Dungeon 8 (The hand, the visuals)

Dungeon 5 (Charming and different)

Dungeon 4 (As per comments above)

Dungeon 6 (Challenging and well thought out)

Dungeon 1 (Amusing, and a great new item)

Dungeon 2 (Great stuff with the Iron Boots. Bit easy though)

Dungeon 3 (Bit of a chore in parts, but still good fun)

Dungeon 9 (Not really a full dungeon. Love the ghosts though)

I have the fishing down to a tee now, so I hope I can help.

Fish from the sloping area on the right as you look down on the area from the top of the Waterfalls. Cast, then just lower the remote so it's laying on your lap or whatever. When the lure goes under the water to about the green marker, simply hold the remote vertically, and you should get "Fish On!". You don't have to do it aggressively, just move it from the horizontal to the vertical.

I was fishing like this in a cave for a bit yesterday, and I caught a fish every single time.

Might be because it's the first one I got stuck on, or it may be all the praise I've read about the dungeon and boss being great but I just found it really, really annoying.

For example...

The room that Klatrymadon mentioned you've got a sliding door puzzle where you pull the chain then rush thru the door before it closes, but not only do you have to avoid spikes shooting out of the ground, you have invisible rats that slow you down, a bloody zombie and the sand to contend with. It's like they threw everthing into 1 room and I think it just felt unessesary.

Loving every minute of it up til that dungeon.

Yeah I was a bit annoyed that there wasn't any precedent for the

invisi-rats

in say, a quick cutscene or something. But oh well.

Does any one know how to get the treasure chest that's

on a column in the little stone ruin just over from Castle Town? Any hints without out right answers?

Having a wander around at the moment trying to do some side quests having finished Dungeon 6 earlier. One in particular has me scratching my head:

I've got the hot springwater to the Goron at the west gate, but I'm having trouble getting any to the one south of Castle Town. I've tried buying some from the new shop, but that doesn't seem to help. Am I being totally stupid?

Also, to those saying you've got all heart pieces/chests, etc., how do you know? Is that through looking at a guide, or is there an item you can eventually pick up the lets you know all chest locations? Actually, the heart pieces can presumably be worked out via the

fortune teller

Just completed the snow dungeon. Im playing the cube version. Doesnt seem to have made me love it like previous games in the series. I cant put my finger on it either but i suppose it just feels like a zelda greatest hits rather than a new game. Its like ive been here several times already.

One thing I didn't really like concerns the final boss

The fact that for the past 3 games or so Nintendo still do the "pass the glowy ball back and forth" section for every bloody end battle. It felt so..... old and really annoyed me since the earlier boss fights were much cooler.

I've just finished the 3rd dungeon and gone back to Castle Town, and have spent about 25 hours on it. I absolutely love love love this game.

I'm finding some dungeon bits tricky, and I waste ages trying to access chests and things that I can't actually get to until i've done something else, or I run off platforms at stupid angles to my doom, or I just can't work out how to get out of a seemingly closed off room.

I have the guide to help me along, but I do try my best before I resort to looking up the answer.

I'm glad that the bosses aren't too hard, as I always give up on OoT at the first boss as I was so rubbish at targetting it with the catapult.

I like all the little things that i'm not used to, like lighting two torches and hearing that little "Ooooh, somethings just happened!" noise.

I'm a bit dissapointed with Castle Town, it just seems so small, and having to load every street is really annoying. I was really looking forward to having a big, bustling city to explore.

I don't mind the Midna jump thing, as I never really spot places that I might be able to jump up without her giggle anyway. I know it's just locking on and pressing A, but when we jump up somewhere really high on tiny ledges it's really fun.

Anyway. I need to find something else to be contrary about, as I can't say I don't like Zelda anymore. :D

Well I spent a couple of hours of messing about after having done the third dungeon. I've now got a few poes bagged, a couple of bugs (although I'm not sure why I need these yet) and a couple of extra heart pieces. I had a good few attempts at the STAR mini-game, but either it's really hard or I'm really shit at it.

Is there anyway to get a bigger purse at this stage in the game? I was wondering as I seen to be leaving huge amounts of cash behind in certian places.

I mentioned a while ago my wishlist for Zelda dungeon settings & it's nice to see that one of them made it with Dungeon 7 (Though I like them all)

Floating in the Sky.

All we need are the other ones now.

Set into a sheer cliff, & Underwater. And no, I'm not counting Dungeon 3. Not enough swimming.

I'm glad to see Nintendo being more imaginitive than me though. All the Dungeons have their own twists but number 5 remains a firm favorite because

It's somone home, arranged like a dungeon in a way that dosent feel forced. Genius.

Totaly agree Jarik, I think that despite many people bemoaning the familiar feel of TP, they're really starting to come up with some interesting new directions for The Dungeons.

Check out a couple of the doors in East Clock Town.
